About this author

Jandy Nelson, like her characters in I’ll Give You the Sun and The Sky is Everywhere, comes from a superstitious lot. She was tutored from a young age in the art of the four-leaf clover hunt; she knocks wood, throws salt, and carries charms in her pockets. Her critically-acclaimed, New York Times bestselling second novel, I’ll Give You the Sun, received the prestigious Printz Award, Bank Street's Josette Frank Award, and is a Stonewall Book Award honor. Both Sun and her debut, The Sky Is Everywhere, have been YALSA Best Fiction for Young Adults picks (Sun, a Top Ten on Both YALSA and Rainbow Lists) and on multiple best of the year lists including the New York Times, Time Magazine, NPR, have earned many starred reviews, and continue to enjoy ...more

I will never stop grieving Bailey because I will never stop loving her. That's just how it is. Grief and love are conjoined, you don't get one without the other. All I can do is love her, and love the world, emulate her by living with daring and spirit and joy.”

“grief is a house
where the chairs
have forgotten how to hold us
the mirrors how to reflect us
the walls how to contain us

grief is a house that disappears
each time someone knocks at the door
or rings the bell
a house that blows into the air
at the slightest gust
that buries itself deep in the ground
while everyone is sleeping

grief is a house where no one can protect you
where the younger sister
will grow older than the older one
where the doors
no longer let you in
or out”

Kenchiin Omg, you actually accepted the friend requested :) I finished I'll Give You The Sun a few days ago in my Kindle, and I couldn't resist purchasing as well the actual hardcover book edition, which is on its way as we speak.

Best wishes from South America, where you also have fans :)

Lacrosse is Awesome! B-) Thanks for accepting my friend request! I'm going to read your books soon! It's just they're so popular I can't find them anywhere! :D

message 24: by Gloria

Gloria Hello Jandy! Thank you SO much for accepting my friend request. It's no often that I want to tell the author of a book so many things... But the first that comes to my mind is Thank you, with capital T.

Because lately I've been feeling very lonely and sad and reading "I'll give you the sun" and falling in love with those characters save me from a really bad place.
I can't even begin to tell you how much I connect with Noah. I've never in my life felt a connection so real like the one I had with him while reading the book. I'm a ver artistic person and being that way I always felt exposed and without anything that could shield me from everything that happens in life. So seeing (mostly feeling) Noah storyline help me so much.

Anyway, I could go on and on but I really wanted to say thanks, because I know how hard it is to write something meaningful, something that would touch other people. I know the sacrifice, so thank you because you save something inside me that I was losing.

Also, forget my spelling, english it's not my first language!

message 23: by Cullen

Cullen I can't even begin to describe how amazing "The Sky is Everywhere" is. I can't believe this was your first novel. It seems like you have been writing for years!

It seems unreal that I will never ever be able to read that story again without knowing who Lennie is going to pick and if Joe is ever going to forgive her. I laughed and cried along with Lennie, Big and Gram. I threw my book across the room in frustration when Lennie could not just pick the fabulous Joe over Toby. I felt her pain with her sisters death and her frustration with everyone always wanting her to talk to them about it. Everyone around me could testify that I was head over heels in love with this book and literally sat in class trying to control my emotions and not start crying in the middle of class. A couple of times I actually gasped in the dead silent classroom.

Thank you for writing this book. I don't know how others can function in life without hearing this fabulous story. My eyes have been opened. This story gave me hope for my own romantic life. I feel as this story was just what I needed, to help me know that maybe I can end up with the guy who is the Joe Fontaine of my life. Maybe I can have a tale as romantic and not sappy as this one. Maybe I can write on things and drop them to the wind or have an outdoor bedroom. Maybe, just maybe. My eyes have truly been opened to a whole new world other than my laptop and phone and who is wearing what. Thank you for that.

Ash.S.B Hiya, I would just like to thank you for accepting my friend request(like all the rest)and tell you how great The Sky Is Everywhere actually is. my favorite quote is : "I cant shove the dark out of my way" because some days I feel like that, like I want to be happy. But I cant. Or should I?
Anyways, thanks a lot, you're truly amazing and an inspiration. Love ya !

message 21: by Lindie

Lindie I want to thank you for accepting my friend request. You wouldn't guess how overjoyed I am. And to thank you for writing something extraordinary; 'The Sky Is Everywhere'
I am so in love with your book, your words, the image that runs through every page. I couldn't put it down. Everything was beautiful.
I completed it in a day, and realized that I just experienced something amazing. You did an exceptional job on this and I can't wait to read more. I'm looking forward to your up coming book.

Lennie Hello there! I just wanted to thank you for (a) friending me :) and (b) Writing The Sky is Everywhere! I did a prose (for forensics) on it last year, and it apparently brought some people to tears :) I have read The Sky is Everywhere almost as much as Lennie has read Wuthering Heights! Thank you for being able to inspire with your writing!

message 17: by Maddie

Maddie I love "The Sky is Everywhere"! It's fresh and invigorating with well developed characters, and as a poet myself, I appreciated Lennie's character. Thanks for Joe, a nice, open guy, who's not creepy or evasive like so many in today's literature.

message 16: by Lara

Lara Thanks for the accept! I finished reading The Sky is Everywhere yesterday and adored it. You are amazing, thank you for writing such a wonderful book.

Christine Hatfield good morning

Savannah Thank you for the friendship...

~♡Sushi♡~ The way you write is... absolutely beautiful.

MizzSandie As my review also clearly states (I'd be honoured if you'd read it), I've completely fallen in love with your writing, Jandy. 'The sky is everywhere' was absolutely one of my favourite books of all time. The way you write, the story, the characters, it all just comes together so beautifullly. I will forever be a fan, a 'demented' one, i suppose, and am looking forward to many more books from you! For now, I'll give you my deepest thanks for 'the sky is everywhere', it was an amazing read. Thank you.

Marina Hi Jandy! Thank you for accepting my friend request! THE SKY IS EVERYWHERE is on my to-read RIGHT NOW list. I've had it for a month, and will dig in over the fall. I knew from the first page that your voice spoke to me like music. xx

Sophie Cochin Hi Jandy! Thank you for accepting my friend request!
The Sky is Everywhere is such a beautiful novel, you did a great, great job! Loved all the literary references! My boyfriend studies English literature (this year, he studied Shakespeare's Sonnets -- (eye)dentity in Shakespeare's Sonnets, something like that, can't remember the full title hahaha) and he really, really likes those words written on pieces of paper, trees and music paper.
"Sad. Endless. Rain" = very cummings-esque ! I loved it! It made me think of this poem with the leaf falling slowly : "1(a... (a leaf falls on loneliness)"
Keep going, Jandy, you're a very talented author!

Hi Jandy! I wanted to tell you how much I LOVED The Sky is Everywhere. I had been staring at it for a while, at different trips to the bookstore, and then finally decided to get it. SO GREAT. Your English is perfect! Thank you so much for this note. I'm so sorry about your best friend, so sorry. It means everything to me that you found some of yourself in Lennie. Thank you so much for letting me know. And thanks about Joe too! I'm pretty sure he's in France--so keep a lookout. :-)

Mika Hi Jandy.

Before I start, I just want you to know that I'm French, so excuse me if I make some English faults. So, I've finished " The sky is everywhere " just this afternoon, and I really want you to know that I was thrilled by this read. My best friend died 6 years ago, and I recognized myself in some of Lennie's thoughts and struggle. So, thank you, thank you very much for writing this book, and above all for creating Joe Fontaine. He's one of the best guy characters I've ever read, and I really hope that someday, I'll find my Fontaine too.

All the best for the future, looking forward to read something new from you.
