Thou shalt abandon thy darlings. If you wrote a line that you’re damn proud of and the editing sword smites it, speak up by all means… but if you’re the only one who was feeling that line, let it go. Better yet learn to forget who wrote what—that way lies heaven.
Thou shalt obey thine outline only as long as thine outline serves thee… then feel free to chuck the damn thing. It’s only a blueprint... Read more of this blog post »

Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.Kurt Vonnegut

There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep yourself open and aware to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. ... No artist is pleased. [There is] no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the othersMartha Graham

“Holy shit!” Icka patted her head as if searching. “You think the nurse stole it? She looked shady.”

“I didn't see myself as the busty type. Too bad bodies are issued randomly, not selected to match your personality”
Phoebe Kitanidis, Glimmer

“Follow your curiosity and serve yourself a unique blend of books that no one else is reading. Read for variety. The more different types of voices you read, the more your brain will get the message that it’s okay to be who you are.”
