about this author
I live in central Vermont with my partner, my preschooler, an ill-behaved dog, and an obese cat. Promise Not to Tell was my debut novel. Island of Lost Girls is the follow-up, coming from Harper in April 2008. My Tiki Girl is my first novel specifically for teens, and will be released by Dutton in May 2008.

"Not the best book on craft, but still very fun for any fan of Patricia Highsmith's work. Some great insight into her own writing process.

"A great collection of classics, including "The Monkey's Paw" which I hadn't read in ages -- it was even more wonderful (and truly creepy!) than I remembered.

quotes by Jennifer McMahon
"I've lived here ... my whole life. It's where I lost all my baby teeth. Where tiny hamster, gerbil, and bird skeletons lie in rotted-out cardboard coffins beneath the oak tree in our backyard. Also where, if some future archaeologist goes digging, they'll find the remains of a plush toy: a gray terrier named Toto I buried after the accident."
