About this author

Now based in rural West Wales, R. S. Pyne is a freelance science writer/geoscience researcher with a PhD in Micropalaeontology from the University of Aberystwyth. She used to be an Iron Age Celt (not in a previous life; as a member of Prytani - The Iron Age Celtic reenactment society)and has a good appreciation of the weaponry of this period. Getting hit in the face repeatedly with a shield boss tends to do this to people and perhaps explains a lot. Non writing interests include growing carnivorous plants and orchids, Muay Thai kickboxing and cryptozoology

If all else fails, I take my dogs for a walk in the woods and watch the red kites and the ravens. Sometimes, I think writer's block is the mind telling you to take a break.(less)

Work on a darker fantasy series is progressing well and a historical horror novella is currently with a beta reader.

I have also been very busy with my post-doctoral research. This month, a research paper on the Quaternary Ecostratigraphy of the Somerset Levels will be submitted to an international peer reviewed journal.(less)

More books by R.S. Pyne…
A month ago, my current work in progress was 16,500 words. It is now at 40,000+ and still not finished. This tale of a kung-fu fighting grandmother from the Rhondda Valley might turn into a novel after all.

Part of the "research" for this involved making Bara Brith. That is my excuse anyway - when I'm not writing, I am up to my eyes in bread flour and fresh yeast. Glad to say - the speckled brea... Read more of this blog post »

A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson
“Not one of your pertinent ancestors was squashed, devoured, drowned, starved, stranded, stuck fast, untimely wounded, or otherwise deflected from its life's quest of delivering a tiny charge of genetic material to the right partner at the right moment in order to perpetuate the only possible sequence of hereditary combinations that could result -- eventually, astoundingly, and all too briefly -- in you.”
