As Richard Parker he has been a professional TV writer for twenty-two years and started by submitting material to the BBC. After contributing to a wide variety of TV shows he became a head writer and script editor. Eschewing an earlier desire to perform after witnessing how the performers he wrote for became prisoners in their own homes, his acting career consists only of a series of walk-on parts in some of his own work.

He also produced a number of TV shows before realising what a thankless task it was. His first was for Channel 5 who very greedily wanted thirteen comedy shows for the price of six. The show had to be written, cast and shot in a couple of months. It was a nightmare of frantic writing, two cameras shooting simultaneously and an equity minimum cast who thought the production staff were being paid more than them.

He concluded that he much preferred drinking with the writers and not attending budget meetings and listening to the incessant demands of whingeing performers. Mercifully, TV got its feet untangled from the eiderdown of political correctness but this unfortunately coincided with its digital proliferation and therefore a reduction in the sort of budgets that afforded him the long lunches he came into the business for in the first place.

After fifteen years of writing TV comedy he sent off some leftovers from a series he worked on to another show that recorded them and then declared him ‘a promising newcomer.’ Tired of being led down blind alleys by a procession of feckless producers, he decided he didn’t want to eke out the rest of his career writing links and ‘adlibs’ for Z list celebs. He elected instead to subject himself to the easy streets of writing and getting a novel published.

A cornucopia of disappointment followed as well as shoddy treatment at the hands of organisations that should have known better. He also got an inside perspective by reading new novels for a literary talent scout. But just as he thought the only way to achieve publication was to actually become a Z list celeb and wait for a publisher to shower him in doubloons to write the first thing that came into his head Ben Mason at Conville and Walsh submitted STOP ME. It was picked up for publication by Allison and Busby.

He had a short movie shot in 2008 called NOBODY SPEAK about the consequences of a long distance Internet relationship. He has just finished writing a feature. More importantly, he is currently penning a brand new thriller for publication.

He has now moved from London to Salisbury but in no way hates London.
