About this author

Born in Vienna, stolen by wolves, raised in the Pyrenées to speak German and Swedish, then sold to an autoworking family in the Midwestern United States, but since that time a traveler to various locations around the globe. Or so rumour has it. Degrees in obscure fields: can read and write but not speak a variety of dead languages. When left to her own devices, she will generally head in the direction of London even when oceans get in the way. Has an aversion to Lima beans. Often spotted carrying a peculiar stringed musical instrument. Of late, she has begun publishing words under the pseudonym Kit Marlowe. Currently living in glorious Galway, Ireland.

Sheer genius from beginning to end. I first read this book on the tube coming back from my first encounter with the Fall live. My mad friend and his madder brother (how mad? He got hit in the head by a bus that night and never even noticed) and I had...more

A fun conceit -- filling in all the background noise of what's happening between the lines of the PULP FICTION soundtrack. Terrific efforts all around, some of surprising gruesomeness and hilarity, too. Too many good stories to choose just one, but a...more

“We have one precious life: do something extraordinary today, even if it's tiny. A pebble starts the avalanche.”
K.A. Laity

“Most people give up their pursuit of genius early on and spend their lives desperately seeking it in others.”
K.A. Laity

“Symptom Recital

I do not like my state of mind;
I'm bitter, querulous, unkind.
I hate my legs, I hate my hands,
I do not yearn for lovelier lands.
I dread the dawn's recurrent light;
I hate to go to bed at night.
I snoot at simple, earnest folk.
I cannot take the gentlest joke.
I find no peace in paint or type.
My world is but a lot of tripe.
I'm disillusioned, empty-breasted.
For what I think, I'd be arrested.
I am not sick, I am not well.
My quondam dreams are shot to hell.
My soul is crushed, my spirit sore;
I do not like me any more.
I cavil, quarrel, grumble, grouse.
I ponder on the narrow house.
I shudder at the thought of men....
I'm due to fall in love again.”
Dorothy Parker

“Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country.”
Anaïs Nin

“Shut up and write.”
K.A. Laity

“I esteem my colleagues as I do my own self, I esteem them for two things: because they are able to find perfect felicity in specialized knowledge and because they are not apt to commit physical murder.”
Vladimir Nabokov, Bend Sinister
