Most folk believe that technology rules their lives. They’re wrong. Dark conspiracies and ancient magic actually dominate this world. My one mission in life is to open people’s eyes to that fact.

I hide behind the pretence that I write fiction to ensure I don't attract unwelcome attention; deadly attention.

My name is Ken Magee and I tell people I write contemporary fantasies which blend adventure and humour with technology and magic. My books live under the tagline ‘ancient magic meets the Internet’. Dark Tidings, The Black Conspiracy and A Darker Shade of Black make up the trilogy.

Here's the rest of my cover story...

I have always been intrigued by words and writing, so writing a novel has been a lifelong dream. However, I needed a career wh

Your wife is right. How else would a family guy find time to write?

So I'm afraid that makes you wrong. The fact of the matter is wizards' cloaks never get dirty. There's something in the material which repels grime, grit and grunge... it's called magic.(less)

I've been very lucky, I really haven't had a bad experience since I started my writing career. I have, of course, had a few disappointments.

Like every writer, I wish my books sold more copies, but I guess the biggest disappointment of all is that I've yet to be approached by a Hollywood studio which wants to make a TV series/movie based on my fantasy trilogy. I'm not downhearted though. As Curly said in the film City Slickers, 'day ain't over yet'.(less)

In thefirst few paragraphs of Dark Tidings, I triedto set the scene for one of the threads of the adventure. Tung, one of the main protagonists, finds himself awaiting execution in a medieval dungeon and I wantedto create the senseof utter despair and hopelessness which he felt.

I think it works well as a scene-setter but I often wonder whether there’s enough in it to hook potential readers. Usi...

It's good to have friends!

I hope you do get the chance to read Dark Tidings... I'd love to know if you find reading the book as intriguing as the concept!

I noticed you've got Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett on your read-this-year list... I'm not sure I'd take a chance with that one. It's so flipping good you'll be sucked into Discworld and be forced to read the other trizillion Discworld novels... we won't see you again for a year! You can maybe tell that Terry Pratchett is one of my favourite authors.

Good luck & best regards, Ken.

Angela Hello Ken, nice to meet you...Thank you for your friend request.
I have to say, I'm intrigued by your books. The concept of "ancient magic meets internet" is one that have actually never heard of and it sounds intriguing.
I like reading about different matters in fiction and non-fiction, especially when it comes to the unknown. I really look forward to reading them. :-)
