The last of the bestseller list rankings came in for the week, and Crouching Vamp will be #11 on next week’s Publishers Weekly list. I can now officially relax and stop  imagining all sorts of dire futures for the hub, dogs, and myself  ( I had visions of us living in a structure made out of the cartons my author copies came in), and get back to the business of being an eccentric novelist.

I realized as I was doing my daily wad o’ writing that I had forgotten several things from the last dragon b

Because I just can’t stop being verbose, dammit!

Yesterday afternoon, as those of you who watch my Twitterages know, my editor called me with the latest list news. Before I get to the big summation of that, I thought I’d take a brief moment to explain to everyone just why authors are so obsessed with bestseller list rankings.

Part of it is ego. We want to be bestsellers! We want to rub shoulders with authors like Stephen King or Nora Roberts! But that’s a pretty small percentage of the big picture

I was suddenly possessed with the overwhelming desire to post this. So I will. That’s just the sort of rogue author I am!

Frequently people ask me if I have a specific individual in mind when I write a character. I didn’t have this model in mind for Kristoff (model’s name is Luca, by the way, and yes, he’s been on Dishy Guy Monday recently), but when I saw him, I thought he was a dead ringer for Kristoff.

So when you’re reading Crouching Vamp, put on Time to Say Goodbye (yes, I was thinking of And

Yes, again. As those of you who read my blog no doubt noticed, I bleated most strenuously yesterday about my firm belief that Crouching Vampire was going to tank. Now, for those of you who are new to my idiocy, this is actually nothing new. It’s a common practice of mine to believe–in all seriousness, and trigged by proof that I feel is infallible–that each book is going to tank. By now, my darling agent Michelle, editor Laura, and husband have all gotten used to my Eeyore ways, and they very ki

Yeah, I’m in a yacky mood lately. Call it being on a “turned in a couple of books and although I should be writing the next one, I don’t technically HAVE to” high.

My muse is humming along nicely, although she did balk a bit when I informed her that she has to come up with the plot for a new dragon book right after she finished plotting the start of the new paranormal series (she gets cranky if she has to do too much plotting, and often gets revenge by throwing the most bizarre things into the pl

DGM

This is Igor.

He’s a bit too skinny for my taste (I prefer men with a bit of heft to them), but I do love his thighs. Er…in this picture, I mean. *cough*

He’s got a nice smile, too. Bonus points for that.

And look! He can smolder! Always a benefit, say I!

I think I’ve decided which book to do next. I was going to write up a few pages of both the new series and next dragon book, and started on the dragon book…and promptly became madly absorbed.

Before Ben and Fran fans start throwing dirty looks over to the dragon fans, I will add that I’m going to try to get a few pages done on that book today just to see if the narrator in it wants to arm wrestle the narrator of the dragon book for supremacy. So don’t give up hope yet.

Today’s field trip is courte

Thank you all for the lovely comments about Crouching Vamp. I’m so pleased to hear that those of you who’ve had a chance to read it have enjoyed it.

I also appreciate everyone who’s chimed in with their preferences as to the May 2010 book. It’s always good to hear what people are anticipating, and I’m relieved to know that folks aren’t getting tired of the dragons. There’s still a lot of story to be explored there, so I will be writing those books for many years.

Those of you who have read Crouchi

This is my publishing schedule:

May 09: Crouching Vampire, Hidden Fang (Dark Ones book)

Nov 09: Me and My Shadow (dragon book)

Feb. 2010: Steamed (Steampunk book)

May 2010: ???

Given the schedule above, would you rather see the start of the new paranormal series book in May 2010, or the next dragon book? I’ve been given the choice of what I want to write next, and I’m waffling. I’m also curious to know if people are going to want two dragon books almost back-to-back (especially given the cliffhanger
