About this author

It has been a busy few weeks of touring since the schools went back, so I’m frantically trying to catch up with writing. I’m taking a quick break from working on my latest book, though, to share some of the entries to a book cover design competition held at Largs Academy recently.

The Book of Doom by Barry Hutchison
" This was going to get four stars right up until the last fifty pages when it easily earned that last one.

Not exactly a follow-on from the first in the series, more just set in the same universe (with a couple of cameos) means that it can be read o... " Read more of this review »
The Book of Doom by Barry Hutchison
" The best book ever! At mere site 13 I already knew that this indeed would be the book best for me. The adventure of Zac was outstanding on his way with Angelo the half-blodded. Many funny moments occured to me and I got out so many laughs. The out... " Read more of this review »
The 13th Horseman by Barry Hutchison
" The fact I blasted through it in two days pretty much sums it up. Ridiculously easy to read, and genuinely funny in places. In fact, one or two of the sections of dialogue reminded me of Douglas Adams. No higher praise. "

This series would have made one of the best trilogies ever. As it is, it's too drawn out and this book was just "meh" at best. There were some brilliant ideas in the series, but some real clunkers, too. The first book is by far the strongest of the l...more

Bloody awful. Couldn't even finish it, and I'm a huge fan of The Walking Dead. Arguably the most infuriating prose style in the history of everything ever.
Barry Hutchison added a status update: Really pleased that The Book of Doom has had its first rating - and it's five stars! Always a relief to get that first reader's opinion out of the way.
