Mary Beth Keane was born in New York City and grew up in Rockland County, New York. She graduated from Barnard College in 1999, and from The University of Virginia in 2005. Her short fiction has appeared in various journals, including The Antioch Review, The Chicago Tribune, The Recorder, The Baltimore Review, and New York Stories. She currently lives in Philadelphia with her husband and son. The Walking People is her first novel. It was selected as an honorable mention in the 2010 selection of the Hemingway Foundation/PEN award. The PEN/Hemingway Foundation Award is given for a novel or book of short stories by an American author who has not previously published a work of fiction.
