About this author

A few years ago Rebecca Cantrell quit her job, sold her house, and moved to Hawaii to write a novel because, at seven, she decided that she would be a writer. Now she writes the Hannah Vogel mystery series set in Berlin in the 1930s. “A Trace of Smoke” is due out in the May 2009, and “A Night of Long Knives” is due out May 2010. “A Trace of Smoke” was considered by major cable networks as a television series.

A faded pink triangle pasted on the wall of Dachau Concentration Camp and time in Berlin, Germany in the 1980s inspired “A Trace of Smoke.” Fluent in German, she received her high school diploma from the John F. Kennedy Schule in Berlin and studied at the Freie Universität in Berlin and the Georg August Universität in Göttingen.

A Trace of Smoke by Rebecca Cantrell
" I couldn't put this one down and the pages just seemed to whiz past as the story unfolded. It's a mystery without being quite a detective story. I quite enjoyed it! "
A Trace of Smoke by Rebecca Cantrell
" I liked the pace of this book. I didn't really expect Hannah's solution to the loss of Anton, but I definitely felt the loss of Boris. My brain understands the ending, but my heart does not. "

" I loved this book. The author takes you back emotionally to the Nazi era. I felt the tension and the bravery of the heroine. The story is fascinating and well told. The authentic period details are remarkable. Highly recommended. "

Suspenseful story set in the Botswana of Precious Ramwotse, but nowhere near as sunny. It's a complex and intriguing plot with hyenas, baboons, diamonds, and lots of good wine.

I loved this completely absurd romp through the United States with a slacker, a Spanish-speaking Croatian clown of mystery, and a cast of other oddballs as they try to save or destroy the planet.
