I always have a hardback at my bedside, but get though a great many more audio books which I listen to on my 3 mile morning walks and at times when I am doing mindless tasks . However, for my bedtime enjoyment, I prefer to read page-turning stories with bit sized chapters. I also like to feel l am learning something about aspects of our world that I am not familiar (an insiders perspective). My most favorite style for reading and writing is that of a thriller--where the reader knows more than any given character within the story.

Fashion during this decade was greatly influenced by the times. American fashion began to have a voice of its own because WWII limited access to European influences. Also, because of the war, many standard materials were unavailable. Having to repurpose items and improvise made fashion take a new direction. As fashion consultant Tim Gunn would say, women of the 1940s had to “Make It Work.”

1949 knitted fashions.

DeMille is an author I have enjoyed in the past. I'm not sure that he has had a character, like John before. His smart aleck humor suits the story which is a page turner.
