Darlene Quinn is an international award winning author and speaker from Long Beach, California.

Darlene writes what she likes to read, which is page-turning-suspense, based on actual events in the world of fashion department stores, while never allowing the facts to get in the way of a good story. The stand-alone Web series explores love and loss, career and family, forgiveness and redemption. Fast-paced chapters propel unforgettable characters through the turmoil of overlapping and often conflicting commitments. As part of a nine-member management team for the Bullocks Wilshire Specialty Department Stores (West Coast Division of the former Federated Department Store conglomerate ~ now Macy's Inc.) I always have a hardback at my bedside, but get though a great many more audio books which I listen to on my 3 mile morning walks and at times when I am doing mindless tasks . However, for my bedtime enjoyment, I prefer to read page-turning stories with bit sized chapters. I also like to feel l am learning something about aspects of our world that I am not familiar (an insiders perspective). My most favorite style for reading and writing is that of a thriller--where the reader knows more than any given character within the story.

In my next blog series, we will discuss constructive criticism.

Giving and receiving criticism in a positive way is one of life’s greatest challenges. Human nature motivates us to do our best to help others. And yet, nobody enjoys having a flaw pointed out. While constructive criticism offers guidance, pride often prevents the acceptance of a need to change. The next few blog posts will explore...
