Linda Gillard graduated from Bristol University, then trained as an actress at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Whilst under-employed at the National Theatre, Linda developed a sideline as a freelance journalist. She ran two careers concurrently for a while, then gave up acting to raise a family and write from home.

Twelve years later, she re-trained as a primary teacher and taught in Norfolk for some years. She moved to the Isle of Skye where she lived for six years in a house on a hill overlooking the Cuillin mountain range, featured in her first novel, EMOTIONAL GEOLOGY (short-listed for the 2006 Waverton Good Read Award.)

A LIFETIME BURNING was published by Transita in 2006 and STA...more

Emotional Geology by Linda Gillard
" Thought provoking, intense and emotionally brilliant writing. A must read for those who have lived first hand with mental health issues as well as those who have not. This story is not in the slightest bit depressing even if the general name for m... "

Bear Witness by Mandy Haggith
(I was sent a review copy of this book by the publisher.)

In BEAR WITESS, her rich and complex second novel, Mandy Haggith has written an ecological page-turner set in Norway and Scotland in the not too distant future. Callis MacArthur, a troubled sci...more
Rogue Male by Geoffrey Household
Superb. This is an extraordinarily gripping read and a 20thC classic that deserves to be better known. The tale itself is sufficiently exciting to make the book un-put-downable, but the 1st person narrative voice of the nameless hero is what made it...more

House of Silence by Linda Gillard
" Books that don’t fit the mould always appeal to me and this one is no exception. House of Silence is a tricky book to define. It has mystery, romance, skeletons in the closet, a decrepit family manor house and a fair few emotional truths. I read i... "

Untying the Knot by Linda Gillard
" Great characters and an enjoyable story - would have liked a lot more 'textiles' in it though. And you can get blood spots out of fabric very easily, especially when fresh! I've had the exact same problem with the rotary cutter. "

“You're like a box of chocolates with the menu missing - the card that tells you what they are. I never know what I'm going to get with you: a soft, creamy centre, something chewy, or an explosion of alcohol.”
Linda Gillard, Star Gazing

“It's been a long time, you see. There's been no one for five years. Not since Gavin. I've spent five years murdering what I felt for him, starving my need for him, purging my memory. But somehow it still feels...too soon. They say time heals, but--'
'They lied,' he said simply.”
Linda Gillard, Emotional Geology

“I am an anomaly - a woman alone, too young to be widowed and too old to be looking for a mate. I occupy that no man's land - no woman's land - between youth and old age.”
Linda Gillard, Emotional Geology

“Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim.”
Nora Ephron

Linda Gillard Thanks Diane. I don't really know my way around Goodreads but I always respond if I get a msg. But i don't have time to use it in the way you're supposed to. Too busy writing books to catalogue what I read!
