About this author

BIO -- NANCY SPRINGER

Nancy Springer has passed the fifty-book milestone, having written that many novels for adults, young adults and children, in genres including mythic fantasy, contemporary fiction, magical realism, horror, and mystery -- although she did not realize she wrote mystery until she won the Edgar Allan Poe Award from the Mystery Writers of America two years in succession. I wrote The Black Beast when I thought I was done with Isle, and I made Vale the reverse of Isle, much the same shape but surrounded by mountains instead of ocean, and kind of shadowed. Being able to combine the two worlds in the next book was a lucky fluke, an inspiration. My creative brain is tired and/or sulking and, as with so many human ailments, there's no cure except Tincture of Time. Waiting for yourself to catch up with yourself is an integral part of the writing process. Even between scenes in a novel I must wait for the well to refill.(less)

I TRIED AND FAILED TO POST AN IMAGE OF MOM'S PAINTING HERE. PLEASE FIND IT POSTED AND "PINNED TO TOP" ON MY FACEBOOK AUTHOR PAGE.

When I was thirteen, my mother gave up her studio and her art career to help my father make a new start. We moved to a rural area south of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, to run a small motel. This kept everybody busy.

A few years later, though, Mom set up her easel and a... Read more of this blog post »
