About this author

BIO -- NANCY SPRINGER

Nancy Springer has passed the fifty-book milestone, having written that many novels for adults, young adults and children, in genres including mythic fantasy, contemporary fiction, magical realism, horror, and mystery -- although she did not realize she wrote mystery until she won the Edgar Allan Poe Award from the Mystery Writers of America two years in succession. DARK LIE, recently released from NAL, is her first venture into mass-market psychological suspense.
Born in Montclair, New Jersey, Nancy Springer moved with her family to Gettysburg, of Civil War fame, when she was thirteen. She spent the next forty-six years in Pennsylvania, raising two children (Jonathan, now 38, and Nora, 34), writing, horseback riding

I wrote The Black Beast when I thought I was done with Isle, and I made Vale the reverse of Isle, much the same shape but surrounded by mountains instead of ocean, and kind of shadowed. Being able to combine the two worlds in the next book was a lucky fluke, an inspiration. It's been almost forty years since I wrote those books, so it's hard to remember how much of the process was conscious and how much was unconscious, but I'm pretty sure reasoning or planning did not have much to do with it.(less)

My creative brain is tired and/or sulking and, as with so many human ailments, there's no cure except Tincture of Time. Waiting for yourself to catch up with yourself is an integral part of the writing process. Even between scenes in a novel I must wait for the well to refill.(less)

More books by Nancy Springer…
Oyez, oyez, a bunch of novels of mine are back digitally! Open Road Media recently went live with them, half YA, half mass market fantasy. And regarding the YA novels, they requested the usual information: describe the book, the characters, how you got the idea, any backstory behind the title of the book or why it was written – aaaaak, for so many books? As the task was so daunting, I cheated.... Read more of this blog post »
