I have to say, I had to think hard about that, because I usually don’t recall ‘couples’ when I think of fiction, but rather, individuals. The first couple that comes to mind is Albert Corde and his Rumanian-born wife, Minna, in The Dean’s December by Saul Bellow. Saul Bellow, gone now, is one of America’s greatest writers and one of my favorites. The Dean’s December divides its time between the five days the couple spends in Bucharest attempting to visit Minna’s dying mother, and Corde’s recollections of a crime he wrote about in Chicago. Bellow painstakingly details the characters of Corde and Minna with deft stokes and brilliant colors.

By the way, if you'd like to read about another well-rendered fictional couple, you might want to look into my latest novel, Van Ripplewink: You Can't Go Home Again. Charles and Valerie are very accurately and honestly rendered, if I may say so myself. Best!(less)

I was responding to Mr. Card's second half of his essay which was, in my opinion, just a rant against Trump. That's all. Anyway, be well.

“I looked out my window. We were cruising above a plateau of shaving cream clouds. That bothered me; I didn’t like not being able to see the ground. A missile could be racing up at us right now. I looked over at my two friends. They were talking excitedly about something, and that made me feel better. Friends are the key, I think. If you have good friends, you can get through anything, even Vietnam.”

Paul Clayton White Seed on fire!!! White Seed: The Untold Story of the Lost Colony of Roanoke, went from no. 3,000 (which is not bad, considering there are over 60 k books on there) to no. 111 in the Kindle Book store. Perhaps someone gave it a good post or review somewhere, but this is astounding news for an old mid list writer like myself. This month, so far, White Seed has sold 333 copies in Kindle. Check it out!

Sure. I recently finished the second of McCarthy's 'Border' Trilogy (drat, I can't remember the title; the first was 'All the Pretty Horses'. I love his Southwest/Mexican stuff. But I'm taking a break from that and I just jumped into Valis by Phillip K. Dick. What are you reading?
