About this author

I'm the author of We're All In This Together: A Novella and Stories, and co-editor (with John McNally) of the anthology Who Can Save Us Now. My writing has appeared in The Bellingham Review, Prairie Schooner, and One Story, as well as the anthologies Hang The DJ: An Alternative Book of Music Lists edited by Angus Cargill and When I Was A Loser: True Stories of (Barely) Surviving High School edited by John McNally. I've been nominated for a National Magazine Award and recognized in the Pen/O.Henry Prize Stories series. My first novel, Double Feature, will be published by Scribner in spring 2013.

My wife is the beautiful and mysterious Kelly Braffet. She has written three wonderful books, but my personal favorite is Save Yourself.

" It took me a little while to get into this one, but suspect this one will be a cult classic in the manner of "Withnail and I" ... quirky and mildly disturbing in parts, but the sum of all it's parts is good. "

Double Feature by Owen King
" Odd book. It's well written, the characters have depth and life to them. I enjoyed them. It's a strange story of a man who grows up dealing with his unreliable movie star father. Sam, the main character, makes a movie of his own, and things go...... " Read more of this review »

“I have known some horses and a good many more pigs who I believe harbored evil intent in their hearts. I will go further and say all cats are wicked, though often useful. Who has not seen Satan in their sly faces?”

“It's always the next pay raise, the next purchase, the next place you move to or go on holiday which will make you happy. The credit crunch could have been a moment to reflect on that. We in the West can do something that no people in history have done: we can show the world that we know when we have enough. As the planet runs out of resources, due mainly to the fact that everyone on it wants to live a lifestyle equivalent to those of us in the West, this lesson would have the potential to save the world.”
John Lanchester

Fran Friel It's lovely to see you here, Owen. I don't think I've seen you since the MySpace heydays. I hope you are well and taking good care of those Red Sox. I miss them.

Hugs from CA,
Fran Friel
