About this author

Ann Leary is the author of the memoir An Innocent, A Broad and the novels Outtakes From a Marriage and The Good House. She has written fiction and nonfiction for various magazines and is a co-host of the NPR weekly radio show Hash Hags. Ann tries to compete in equestrian sports and is a volunteer EMT. She and her family share their small farm in Connecticut with four dogs, three horses, two cats and a resident ghost.


It’s so awkward getting gifts that you really don’t like. Or need. Especially when the giver is all excited because they looked all over for it and they love it so much that they just assume that you’ll love it and treasure it forever. We’re hard to shop for, everybody tells us so, but Daphne always manages to find something that we don’t already have. Last week, she gave us this:

I loved this book on so many levels. The writing is beautiful, the characters relatable (some more than others, of course) and I especially loved what Ms. Randolph did with the plot, which isn't told chronologically, but rather from end to...well, do...more
