Much as I love research, and the past couple of months' total immersion in all things of Victorian-era London, reading fiction set in the period is refreshing.
Today I thought home YA Lee's first two books in The Agency trilogy - A Spy in the House and The Body in the Tower, and was immediately immersed in the first one.
Rather than analysing language, pacing, style or content, I'm just trying to enjoy the basic storytelling. And so far it's intriguing and well-placed. If there are already a couple of small jarring vernacular glitches, I'm happy at this point to just keep going to see how it all turns out.
