Jaye Wells's Blog

I got some uber-exciting news yesterday: Red-Headed Stepchild has gone back for a second printing! A big thanks to everyone who’s bought it so far. As you all know, the sales in the first few weeks are crucial, and I’m so thrilled people are loving Sabina and the gang.

As I mentioned earlier this week, I’m heading out for the Romantic Times Booklovers Convention on Tuesday. I probably won’t be around much between now and then as I finish up Mage in Black to send to my editrix and get ready to go

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a nice Easter. We’re pretty much heathens around Casa de Wells, but Spawn enjoyed his basket filled with candy and toys. After that, we headed to my mom’s for brunch. My mother makes this amazing egg casserole with green chilies and cheese. Add some ham and a fruit salad and you’ve got yourself a recipe for nom-age. Then it was home for a nap (nomming makes me sleepy) and the hanging of our new ceiling fan. Nothing but nonstop excitement, I tells ya.

In addition

Every now and then, I’ll hear someone talking about urban fantasy novels. Specifically, how certain authors “didn’t bring anything new to the genre.” They’ll talk about the tough heroines, the sidekicks, the Big Bads, and other common elements in the genre.

Now, keep in mind, I’m not trying to call anyone out here. After all, everyone has their opinion, so who am I to say they’re not valid? Well, for one, I write urban fantasy. I read urban fantasy. And I spend a heck of a lot of time thinking a

As far as weekends go, this last one ranks right up there. Seriously, guys, I think I have a permanent face cramp from all the smiling.

It all started Thursday when I picked Mark Henry up from the airport. Mark had no time to relax or adjust to his new surroundings as I whisked him straight to buy alcohol for the book launch party. We grab a bunch of bottles of Il bastardo, a minikeg of beer and 40s of Mickeys (for us, cause we’re klassy). We wanted Boone’s Farm, but would you believe we couldn’

Happy Friday!

I’m dragging this morning. Some days there’s just not enough coffee in the world. I’m watching the Today show, and an expert is talking about body image for women. She’s a British woman with a charming accent. And she just said: “Ask yourself, ‘Am I daring to be lovely?’”

OMG I love that. Today, my friends, I will dare to be lovely. Right after I finish these Cadburry Mini Eggs I’m having for breakfast and grab a nap.

Oh and today I’m hanging out over at the Romance Bandits blog. The

I thought I’d take a break from my relentless book whoring to discuss a topic that’s fascinating me right now. No, not the economy or politics–those subjects I avoid talking about at all costs online. It’s not religion, which I also try to avoid. That leave the third in the trifecta of taboo subjects: Sex. In this case, I’m not just talking about any sex, but hot monkey sex. If the idea of such a thing disturbs or offends you, go ahead and click away now.

While I downed a gallon of coffee this mo

Exciting news, people. On Saturday, I received an email from a friend with this picture attached.

OMG, the first offical sighting of Red-Headed Stepchild in the wild. I love that it’s grainy and unfocused, not unlike pictures of Big Foot. I’m also not minding the placement between Mr. Grisham and Mr. Connelly. Just sayin’.

This shot was taken by the fab Miss Groswith at a Borders in Dallas. I hit a couple of Borders near my house on Sunday, but was informed my preciouses were in boxes somewhere in

Couple of cool things to report today.

1. Loves Vampires reviewed Red-Headed Stepchild. 4 1/2 Stars! Here’s a tease:

… It is also the debut novel for author Jaye Wells, who gets her writing career off to a cracking start with this near perfect example of urban fantasy fiction. …

2. My sources tell me Barnes & Noble is already shipping online orders of the book. And if you have a Kindle you can download the ebook immediatley–as in right now.

ETA: Sorry, guys I spoke too soon. The Kindle version is al

Top o’ the morning to ya and  Happy St. Patrick’s Day. The timing couldn’t be better since I got my UK copies of RHS yesterday. I think I’ll celebrate their arrival with some green beer.

I went to a St. Pat’s party this weekend and a drunk man asked me why we celebrated the man, the myth, the legend named St. Patrick. My response was that St. Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland. I mean, right? That’s what we’re told. When we don green bowlers hats, drink green beer and pinch people it’s all b
