About this author

I am the author of the Niki Alexander mysteries. LESS DEAD and LOST WITNESS. Niki is an ex-cop turned counselor at a Houston teen shelter for runaway and throwaway. My short story, "Searching for Rachel," appears in A DEATH IN TEXAS, the second Final Twist anthology published by L&L Dreamspell. Their third anthology, A BOX OF TEXAS CHOCOLATES, includes my short story, "Dying for Chocolate" followed by "The Banditos of Telephone Road" in TWISTED TALES OF TEXAS LANDMARKS. I've also wrote three screenplays which were optioned.
I settled in Houston about 30 years ago and am surrounded by my three grown children and six grandchildren, all within driving distance.

Niki Alexander had to fight for everything she achieved in life. Her college education was cut short when her father stabbed a member of the Mexican Mafia and they had to run for their lives. After her father went to trial and was released because no one showed up to prosecute, they left California for Houston, Texas. Niki applied to the Houston police academy. There she met and fell in love wi... read more »

Hi Rick, great seeing you here. In answer to your question, yes. "Less Dead" does refer to that theory. I first heard the saying at a workshop with Steven Eggers, author of "The Killers Among Us."

Rick Reed Laura, thanks for adding me to your to-read list! I don't remember if I asked this, but is "Less Dead" referring to the theory that serial killer victims are usually the 'expendable' member of society, such as runaways and prostitutes? I taught a class on serial killers and this was one of the theories that caught my attention. Again, thank you.

Jeannie Faulkner Barber HI Laura and thanks for the add. Hmmm, Less Dead is such an intriguing titile. I love it! If you have time, I'd love for you to visit my web site, www.jeanniebarber.com. I'm a novice writer so feel free to make any kind of suggestions, ideas or thoughts to correct it. I’m co-authoring a novel with Patty Wiseman, another friend on Goodreads. We’ve known each other for over 30 years. While you're there, please sign the guestbook, too! There’s also a link to our book you can click on…clairkelley@synthasite.com. This site is brand new and in the editing stage as is our story. Please visit it as well. We’re both very green, but we’ve met so many people on this site willing to reach out and offer advice or a guiding hand.
Thanks,
Jeannie
