Born in New York City. Daughter of political consultant Ethan Geto and folklorist Barbara Gravinese. Lived part-time in Israel/Palestine between 1983-1989. Moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1990. Lived in Portland, OR with her husband and three children from 2004-2012. Currently living in the Bay Area.

Studied creative writing at SUNY Binghamton with Jerry Mirskin, Larry Woiwoide and Diana Abu-Jaber; at Mills College with Chana Bloch, Stephen Ratcliffe and Elmaz Abinader; independently with Mark Wunderlich and Eric Best.
