Dee Marie is an award-winning author, photographer and artist. She has a vast knowledge of Arthurian Legends, with a reference library that is overflowing with British, Celtic, and Druid history.

Research for her Sons of Avalon series also included a visit to Britain, where she was privileged to walk within the inner circle of Stonehenge, embracing the Dancing Stones on the Salisbury Plain. While in Cornwall, she explored the moors surrounding Bodmin, and ambled upon the ancient ruins of Tintagel.

Former Managing Editor, and later Editor-in-Chief, of an internationally published computer graphic magazine, when not writing novels, she supplements her time working as a freelance journalist. Dee Marie currently lives in Upstate New York, and is

At dinner parties, when the question of, "What do you do?" inevitably comes up, a small crowd always gathers when I answer that I am a novelist. The group grows larger and the room hushes when I add that I am currently working on the second book in my Arthurian novel (after all, everyone grew up on tales of Camelot). Yet, how quickly the masses dwindle, returning to previous merry conversation,... Read more of this blog post »

I really wanted to like this book, as it is a classic. However, although I found the story well-written, it was a struggle to finish, mostly due to the diary format.

Dee Marie Hi Irene,

Sons of Avalon: Merlin's Prophecy, explores Merlin's teen years, as well as the youthful Sir Lot. Although Morgan is not a featured player of the first book in the series...Morgan and her sister, Morgause, are introduced and play a pivotal role in the story

Thank you for your interest in Merlin's tale.
Dee Marie

Cassandra Lê Oh, I'm really like Arthurian Legend, especially Morgan Le Fay, I think I will read your book :)

Sara Hey!
Ah ... I've been out of school for a year now. :P
Well, college anyhow. Just finalizing some stuff for a job working in a nursing home as a kitchen worker; and then I'll be working full-time. Really need to get my license.

I was having writers' block for quite a while; finally got past it when a supporting character of mine from another story turned out to be more interesting than the main character. So I started writing about her. I haven't written in a few days, but I think it'll work out.

Hope you've been well! :D

Sara Oh, cool! I only heard about it last year.

Thanks, lol, but it's degenerated into a bunch of short stories and random musings. My novel just didn't hold up, and I've found my journal-type musings actually help get me to 50k faster than an actual novel.

Dee Marie Hey SBG,

Yes, this is the third year that I am doing NaNoWriMo (only proves my point that insanity is a prerequisite of becoming a novelist).

My NaNoWriMo homepage is:

I will add you as my writing buddy :]

Edit: Wow, I just saw your NaNoWriMo word are kicking butt...waaaaaaaaaaay to go! I am so proud of you :]

message 30: by Sara (last edited Nov 10, 2009 06:48AM)

Sara True, true.
I'm 15.3k words in, and finally decided to force the plot in otherwise it'll keep being family angst and pages and pages of the same stuff.

I realize now I never asked you ... are you, by chance, doing NaNoWriMo as well? :)
My username is the same as my name here, but without the spaces.

message 29: by Dee

Dee Marie Hey SBG,

Insanity is the prerequisite of becoming a novelist :]

message 28: by Sara

Sara :D
Yes, actually. I only decided about seven or so days ago.
My story seems incredibly plotless and boring, and yet I'm excited and shall actually try for 20k at least.

I must be insane.

message 27: by Dee

Dee Marie Hey SBG,

I fully understand what you are going through...we all have periods where we feel that we are in a slump. Please know that this too shall pass.

Are you doing NaNoWriMo this year? Sometimes writing 50,000 words in 30 days can jump start your writing :]

Wishing you a most wonderful month of writing. I believe in you!

Dee Marie

message 26: by Sara

Sara I haven't written anything lately. :(
I looked over all my stories and realized I don't have as many as I thought, and I have no new ideas ... well I do, but I'm afraid of starting it. Because I've started more than 20 stories and haven't been able to go beyond 30 handwritten pages for any of them, and ...

yah. I think I just can't write anymore. I have plenty of time since there's no jobs available because the economy sucks, but it seems even that time isn't sufficient enough to get ideas out of my head, onto paper. I haven't finished a book since--well, in more than a year I think. And it's killing me not to be writing. I just keep getting stuck on the couple of stories I've tried finishing and put those aside and tried writing other ones or finishing other ones and its just this whole cycle in which nothing gets finished.

Dangit! I shouldn't be posting this kinda shtuff on your wall. I should post lots of happy stuff. Let's see ...
I'm still alive
have a great family
and um ... that's it for now. Hope you're having a great Monday. :)

message 25: by Dee

Dee Marie Hey SBG,

I am so excited that you are writing again. You MUST put your story on the computer. I would very much enjoy reading it over, as I know it will be wonderful :]

Keep writing!
Dee Marie

message 24: by Sara

Sara It worked a little bit! :D

I went back to a story I've put aside for a long-ish time and took out some pages, rewrote stuff, and went on from there. I think I have at least five more pages of that story.
It's tapered down some and I'm trying to find the plot again; but ... it's only like forty something pages so I suppose I shouldn't worry about it too much. It took a whole 'nother direction. >.>

If I had it on the computer and not handwritten, I might've sent it to you and asked you to look over it and tell me if you thought it was good and if the new characters I introduced actually brought anything to the story, or if it felt like I just forced them together/it to happen.

message 23: by Sara

Sara Thanks, Dee. :)

message 22: by Dee

Dee Marie Hey SBG,

Dust off one of your favorite that's sitting around, and just start re-inventing it. I did that recently with a short story I started over 10 years ago.

It is amazing what a few years rest can do for the imagination :]

I believe in you! Keep writing!
Dee Marie

message 21: by Sara (last edited Aug 17, 2009 02:33PM)

Sara Ah ... well, I just re-read a lot of books, and read a couple ones from my TBR list--can't currently recall their titles. Oh wait, Gone, I read Gone.

I've started like 20 stories, none are working. I've got really, really awful writers' block and have pretty much given up. I have plenty of wonderful ideas, they just don't work. This one's pretty bad, it'll probably last a year or more.

Thanks for replying--some of my friends seem to not see the comments I leave for them and I freak out and think they forgot about goodreads. I'm glad you've been doing alright, even with all the construction going on.

message 20: by Dee

Dee Marie Hey SBG,

I have been in construction hell this summer. After living in a hobbit (earth-sheltered) house, a new story has been added to the house. This fall I will turn from a hobbit into an elf, as the new story is like living in a tree house.

The view is beautiful from the new addition, and it will be wonderful when the construction guys leave :]

How are you doing? Read anything good lately? How is your novel coming along?

Thanks so much for stopping by and saying hi.

I am so proud of you. Great job! Always remember that if you write just one page a day, your novel will be finished in a year! Whoo! Whoo!

Tara You like Twilight? me too. I need more time in the day to write my own stories. I love to write stories based on my own harsh experiences, And when I have my friends read them they look at me with amazement in their eyes. They it's good but dark, and sometimes that I'm flat out crazy. And I tell them "everyone's crazy. I'm just sane enough to admit it." But I would love to show you some of my work some time.
