About this author

Robert Poole was born in 1923. During the Second World War, he served in the Royal Navy and, later, the Merchant Navy. He jumped ship in New Zealand, changed his name and built a new life, but was eventually discovered and deported back to the UK. 'London E1' was his only published novel, and is a rare early fictional description of the new Asian settlement of the East End.
