Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Namid survived an abusive childhood at the hands of her father. Her teen and early twenty years found her in abusive relationship after abusive relationship. in 2004, Namid was raped by someone she knew. That rape changed her life, and caused her to write To Dance Amongst the Stars. She has since written a workbook entitled A Guide to Survivorhood, and has a few more titles coming out later this year. In addition to her writings, Namid has also started her own grass-roots organization to help other rape and incest survivors called The R.A.P.E. Foundation - Recovery Advocacy Prevention Education
