The war is over and the Vampires have won. The drying up of the world's oil resources leads to the fabled End of Days. Technology stagnates and communities grow ever more insular. With communication between cities lost and attention turned inward, the vampires rise from the shadows where they have survived for centuries and sweep across the globe. By the time word spreads it is far too late and Vampires enslave humanity and keep them in walled cities to breed. The Vampires are masters of the darkness but maintain control by day through the use of Thralls--humans who have been bitten but have not yet crossed over, and whose inhuman lusts make daylight as terrifying as night. In the midst of chaos, a small band of rebels lead a terrified existence, but their survival is threatened by the Vampire's new scanning procedures. John Harris is an ordinary man. Young and reckless, he is frustrated with the group's stagnation and pushes for one more daring mission. His recklessness has exposed the group--but it has also increased the size of their community. Now, as circumstances force them to take the offensive, and accompanied by a small group of professional Vampire assassins, John will make one last stand for humanity's survival in the Vampire Apocalypse.

The War is Over. The Vampires have Won. But a new campaign is about to begin. The first battle is over and Nero is dead. Now the human survivors will pull themselves from the ruins of their base to find that the world is a very different place outside Nero's territory. Nationally, the vampires have organized themselves into cabals but the scramble for power, raw materials and humans for their food, have led to an uneasy peace. Below the surface each state plots against the other and only the far-reaching power of the Vampire Council holds all-out war at bay. Now their control is slipping. And Peter Harris and his team have a plan that might just push them over the edge.

Journalist John Pender has returned to his home town of Whiteshead to rekindle his marriage. Ex-British Intelligence Officer Dave Johnson has arrived to isolate himself after his fiancée is murdered during a mission that went terribly wrong. But excavations for the new shopping centre unearth a mysterious contagion that threatens to throw their lives into chaos. Now the residents of Whiteshead are trapped within a quarantine zone with the military on one side and ravenous hordes on the other. Escape is no longer an option. Far out in the mouth of the estuary a small keep sits forlornly surrounded by an apron of jagged rocks. This refuge has always been unassailable, a place of myth and legend that has grown in folklore through the years. Now, it's the survivors' only hope of sanctuary. But there are thousands of flesh-eating infected between them and the keep and time is running out ...

The Buried Tales anthology of horror and supernatural fiction transports you to the rural town of Pinebox, Texas, where secrets are buried but the dead don’t always stay that way. Join us for a dozen killer stories by David Wellington, Shane Hensley, Jess Hartley, J.D. Wiker, Monica Valentinelli, Charles Rice, and more.

Here are just a few of the stories found within Buried Tales:

The Evil Within, by Derek Gunn - What could cause bodies to appear dessicated practically overnight? A rookie Sheriff's deputy refuses to turn a blind eye to Pinebox's unusual qualities when he teams up with the county's unofficial coroner to solve a series of murders.

Mother, by Trey Gorden - Art has never had what you'd call a successful life. In fact, you could call it downright cursed. But all of that could finally change after he sees a news story that offers a tantalizing hint about his mother's death. All he has to do is live long enough to see it through.

Blood-Born, by Charles Rice - A hospital visit turns violent for a recovering Leukemia patient. If Jack can't control the presence growing inside him, it threatens to consume him just as it has done his predecessors.

Lovable Creatures, by Jason Blair - Alby and Angie have seen some weird things during the graveyard shift at Speedy Pete's gas 'n beer. Things just got weirder.

Guitar Zero, by Shane Lacy Hensley - ETU student and hot-shot programmer Cal Griffis can't resist the challenge of hacking a dead friend's private hard drive. Unfortunately for Cal, this is one challenge he should have ignored.

The One That Got Away, by Preston P. DuBose - A fishing trip on Lake Greystone takes a turn for the strange when best friends Clay and Pete find a body in the water. Things get even more interesting when the "body" turns out to still be alive!

Pie, by Monica Valentinelli - One villain is pitted against another in this cat-and-mouse tale of murder, mistaken identity... and pie!

    A New War begins

FALLOUT is the third book in Derek Gunn's Vampire Apocalypse series. The Vampires rule. Humanity are enslaved in a nightmare world where those who are still alive are bred as food for the vampires and the entertainment for the vicious thralls who guard them.

The brief but bitter conflict between rival vampires has left Von Kruger victorious. However, the thralls have used the war to their advantage and they have grown in power and confidence against their former masters. Their rivalry is set to escalate but first they must eliminate another threat - the small band of human survivors. Harris and his team hold a secret of immeasurable power – a coating for bullets that can kill the vampires. The thralls want it and the vampires must destroy it. But first they have to find them. An uneasy alliance is forged until the humans can be destroyed but neither side can hope to trust the other.

Across the country another power struggle threatens them all. There is a power play at work that Harris does not understand. Harris’s warning of the serum’s deadly effects has been ignored and the doomsday clock continues to tick relentlessly towards Armageddon.

On top of all that there is a traitor in the human community and the small matter of a potential nuclear catastrophe…

"Gunn writes a face-paced and action-packed adventure. This is one of the better post-apocalyptic novels I’ve read .....a great survival horror tale" Flames Rising,

“ races from one high point to another and effectively sucks the reader into the story and pulls them along for the ride."
Love Vampires.

" non-stop action. The story never lets up, and it’s very hard to put down. I often sat in bed thinking the usual ‘one more page" Book Club Forum

"Gunn's writing style....is very engaging, particularly his action sequences. They are plentiful, intense, appropriately blood." Bookloons

I was hooked from the Prologue....... I will be looking for more by Derek Gunn in the future."Amateur de Livre

"... Derek Gunn's novel certainly gives the Vampire genre a much needed kick in the teeth, so we can't say we're surprised to see that tinsel town has caught on to the story's potential to wow genre fans looking to mix a little action with their horror." Quiet Earth, 2008

"Anyone who is interested in vampire literature and likes his or her fiction filled with action will enjoy this novel, and it is recommended." Fearzone

"Gunn weaves a terrific tale...breathtaking well-plotted action" Apex Science Fiction Digest

“ an incredibly original piece of fiction that keeps the reader turning the pages “ Horror-web

“Action from beginning to end.....I am shocked by how much I enjoyed this story”Horrorworld

“This is the book that takes Vampires and turns them into a Summer Blockbuster..The battle scenes are outstanding"
Gorezone

"...solid storytelling..kick back and let the action flow over you” Whispers of Wickedness,

an intriguing overall plot, with plenty of action and a concept that is far from ordinary." Dark Scribe Magazine
