As a kid, I loved to spend play time sorting through stones to find the ones with sparkly specks in them. I thought the flecks were gold.
I trained in Zoology and Zookeeping, but can't help still looking for the flecks of gold in life. Writing helps me do this.
I started off writing scientific articles, then the occasional magazine article about pets and travel. Now I focus on children's fiction and non fiction. I specialize in writing about animals and nature-related topics.
My home is in Melbourne, Australia, where I live with my husband and daughter.

I first read this book at school a long time ago. I didn't remember much about it other than that I thought it was good. Decades later, and I still think it is good. Very good. Even though it was written in the 60s, the issues and voice are still rel ...more

Hmm. I'm not sure about this one. I am in two minds. With lots of direct speech, this was a bit reminiscent of Don't Let the Pigeon Drive The Bus. It speaks directly to young children, in their language and with their sense of humour. So I suppose ma ...more

This is a fun rollicking, rhyming, read-aloud story for young children. Reminiscent of Green Eggs and Ham (Dr. Seuss), this is the story of Plunkett the pig, who must decide what to do when a birthday invitation stipulates to come in pink; something ...more

While the stories were a bit variable, I loved their style, and the fact that these dragons were often not like the typical dragon we think of these days (i.e. like Tolkien's Smaug). The astute asides, the taking you out of the story to talk to you d ...more
