Even though it's WAY too cold outside to wear summer dresses this time of year, I still love buying them in preparation for when it heats up enough for me to wear them. I bought a couple online recently. Here's what I got:

I love this one. Flowers are so summery! Can't wait to wear this out to a picnic or a wedding!

This one from Siobhan Molloy is stunning. I love how it's just so simple but still one of the most beautiful dresses I've ever seen!

Winter is coming, and that means many things.

One of them is that it is time to wrap up warm. Winter is my favourite season for fashion. And I have absolutely fallen in love with Amelia Jane London's fur pom pom hats.

You may have seen these hats quite a lot around the place as they are starting to get mighty popular.

They come in lots of different colours and you can mix and match to get any combination of hat and pom pom you like.

Since the book launches tomorrow, here is the last quote ... and it's a humdinger, as we say in the Southern US. It's from Shane's POV. And it's a bit of ... a dream sequence, maybe? Or not? I CANNOT SAY. Hmmmm!

--------------------------------

“I’m glad you’re happy,” my father said. “You deserve to be. You’ve made me proud, Shane.”

I was silent for a moment, struggling with that. He didn’t blink. There were tears running down his cheeks, which was weird, because my dad didn’t cry, never had, not even when my sister Alyssa died.

It was as if his face was melting.

I struggled to keep it together. “You’re dead, Dad. And you were never like this.”

“Like what?”

“A real human being,” I said. “You were never proud of me, or at least you never said it. You always wanted more. I was never good enough for you, even before I killed Alyssa.”

“You didn’t kill her.”

“I should have saved her. Same thing. Didn’t you tell me that a million times?”

The tears were ice, and the ice was melting. “I’m sorry if I said that. I didn’t mean it, Shane. I’ve always been proud of you.”

Liar.

Now, on to the quote of the day! 2 more days to the OFFICIAL RELEASE! - So here's a bit of drama for you ...

-----------------------------------

Claire threaded her shotgun through the spokes on the valve and used it as a lever, careful to keep her hands far away from the trigger mechanism. With a deep, metallic groan that vibrated up through the floor, the valve started to turn. As it spun, it got a little easier, and she tightened it off, took the shotgun out, and moved to the next one.

“Claire,” Shane said.

“Almost got it!” She gritted her teeth and threw her shoulders into it, and the second valve squealed as rust flaked free.

“Claire!”

She looked up this time, and saw that he was facing away from her, down the hallway. The expression on his face . . . she didn’t want to look.

But she had to.

The draug were approaching in utter silence, gliding through the metal halls like ghosts. Identical men, all gray and indistinguishable and yet so very wrong, rippling and boneless.
There must have been twenty of them coming their way.

Now, on to the quote of the day! WOW, I can't believe it, but we are only a mere 3 days from the official launch of BLACK DAWN in stores! So, to tide you over, here's a little something from the team, including Myrnin ... as they speed off in an appropriated armored car.

-----------------------------------

“I think I may puke,” Shane called up, which was met by a chorus that he’d better not. He wasn’t serious, at least. Or Claire hoped he wasn’t. “You could fill this thing up with water and detergent and spin clothes in it. Does it even have shocks?”

“Stop complaining,” Myrnin said, sitting perfectly comfortably in his velvet-covered seat. “It is the most protected vehicle you could possibly wish to be inside. It is bulletproof, lightproof, and most important, waterproof, although if you could please not put that to the test by driving it into any deep ponds I would appreciate it.”

Michael looked sideways at Claire and said, “Could you please see if you can get him to shut up before Shane punches him, or I do?”

“Myrnin,” she said wearily, “just shut up.”

“You wound me.”

“Not yet, but keep it up.”

Now, on to the quote of the day! A twofer, because I had to miss yesterday (gale force winds, I'm on the OCEAN, don't judge, people!) ... first, an exchange between Shane and Naomi, and second, a little snippet of a big dramatic scene from Claire's POV!
-----------------------------------

FIRST:

“Any idea of how far we have to go?”

“No,” Naomi said, and furrowed her brow. “Why?”

“Just thinking that it might be better to go in a vehicle than on foot. For safety.”

“You,” Naomi said, “have a flamethrower, which is not of much use in the enclosed space of an automobile. Perhaps you might have considered that in your choice of weapons.”

“Not a car. A pickup,” he said without hesitation. “I get the back. Ladies in the front. Maximum speed, minimum exposure, plus a good firing platform for me and Claire, with the shotgun. Or you. Whichever.”

Naomi cocked her head and looked at him in silence for a few seconds, then nodded. “Very well,” she said. “Obtain one, if you please.”

“I always knew hot- wiring skills would come in handy, other than getting me more frequent flyer jail points,” Shane said.

SECOND:

The impact slammed the stock of the shotgun against her shoulder so hard that she felt something crack — bone, probably — and a white snap of pain sizzled through her from neck to heels. At the same time, the roar of the shot hit her like a physical slap.

But that was nothing compared to what the silver did to the draug.

The pellets didn’t have time to spread far, but tore a neat circular hole four inches across straight through the draug’s — well, head, she supposed, was the nearest equivalent. There was a shriek of high- pitched agony, and then the draug collapsed in a wet slap as it lost all consistency and shape. Claire yelped as she leaped out of the way of the wave of its . . . corpse? If it was dead, which she couldn’t assume. But it wasn’t coming for her, and that was what was important.

There were more of them, rising out of hidden pools in the muddy yard, out of the drain in the street, condensing out of the rain itself.

Oh God. There were so many.

Now, on to the quote of the day! Can Monica and Shane actually have a moment where they don't hate each other?
-----------------------------------

Monica shot her a swift, mercilessly piercing look. There was blood in her hair, Shane’s blood, drying in a stiffened patch.

“News flash, preschool, nobody’s okay right now, and most of us didn’t have that happen.” She stood up suddenly, her expression hardening, and tugged at her dress. “I came back here to get help, not to get dragged off to rescue your lame, limp ass, Collins. So you could be a little grateful.”

Shane slowly raised one hand, and . . . flipped her off. It was weak, but it was so very him that Claire almost cried.

Monica almost smiled. Almost. “Yeah,” she said. “That’s what I thought. Truce over, asshole. Next time I see you bleeding on the side of the road, I back up and run you over again.”

Now, on to the quote of the day! Oh, a tense moment between Myrnin and Oliver ...
-----------------------------------

Oliver grabbed the lapels of Myrnin’s lab coat, and dragged him very close.

“I. Do not. Take orders. From you,” Oliver hissed. “You take orders from me, witch. And for as long as I find you useful, you’ll enjoy your privileged status. Once you’re a liability, we’ll revise the terms of your . . . employment. Are we understood?”

“Amelie—”

“Is dying,” Oliver said. His face looked hard as a bone knife. “Sentiment aside, we cannot leave a vacuum of power, and you know that. Without leadership, the vampires will battle each other in bloodline conflicts, run wild, attract attention. She has been a strong, fair leader. I hope I can be half as much.”

“Which half?” Myrnin asked. “Not fair, surely.”

Oliver’s fangs extended to their full, terrifying length, and he hissed like a cobra. Myrnin didn’t flinch. And didn’t fight.

Now, on to the quote of the day! Michael and Shane, discussing the value of a Morganville education.

-----------------------------------

Claire said, “Tell me what we’re supposed to be out at Morganville High School looking for, because I know it’s not their amazing chem lab.”

“You’d be right about that,” Shane said. “Although to be fair, chem class did turn out some would-be meth cookers - right, Michael?”

“Would-be is right. They blew themselves up in a trailer at the edge of town,” Michael said. “Not exactly an endorsement of our fine public school system.”

“Which way?”

“Either way.”

“Good point.”

Now, on to the quote of the day! How about a little action? (Bonus: Myrnin. Also, shotguns.)

-----------------------------------

There was a shadow forming in the rain outside, dark and ominous. A human-shaped shadow that took on form and substance.

It smiled at them.

“Yeah, happy to see you too,” Shane said, as he aimed. The stunning smash of the shotgun’s roar whited out Claire’s hearing for a moment, and she missed that Myrnin was talking on the phone until the keening noise in her ears began to subside again.

“— School,” he was saying, or at least she thought he was. “What? Yes, Shane is target shooting, and we are going to die. I just thought you should know.”
