*coughs delicately* Just posting to say that IMDB can be edited by anyone with an IMDB PRO account, and what's on there is not necessarily accurate. Please don't take anything seriously until there is an official announcement. That's all!

[Which reminds me of my favorite Penny Arcade cartoon: ]

In other news (since I've got you by the ear anyway) Jace is up for winning in the "YA love interests who leave you wishing you were 17 again" category and Clockwork Angel is up for Children's Book Club's's 2011 Teen Choice Book of the Year. You can also vote for other hot (fictional) guys and other great books. But voting is good!

Audiobooks are definitely a funny thing. I love listening to them and I know the voices can make or break the book. I've been lucky to like the readers for the first three TMI books and was ecstatic when Jennifer Ehle read Clockwork Angel because I've had a big ole fangirl crush on her since Pride and Prejudice. And she did a terrific job.

We've always used female readers even as the TMI books have grown out of being told only from Clary's perspective and into the perspective of the other characters. But we wanted to do something a little different for City of Fallen Angels because it really does split fifty-fifty, with about fifty percent of the book being Clary and the other fifty being Simon and Jace (with even some Magnus and Alec tossed in there.) So we decided to have a male reader for the male sections, and a female reader for the female sections. Since they were just confirmed this weekend, I can announce that the readers are:

Chuck Bass Ed Westwick! Sorry, Gossip Girl is my secret love and Chuck especially so, as I have mentioned before, so I'm going to keep doing that. I hope he can bring his classic slightly evil drawl to Jace's sarcastic lines. I also have to say I am looking forward to him reading Magnus.

Reading the Clary sections of the book will be the adorable Molly Quinn, known to watchers of Castle:

Who is already a fan of the books,, has great comic timing, and is cool enough to wear a Star Trek uniform to ComicCon.

So altogether let's just say I am super excited! Looking forward to recording starting.

Hey guys,

I know a lot of you have been waiting for updates, so first, here's a two-part interview with Lily Collins where she talks about playing Clary, her favorite scenes, and what she is looking forward to filming the most:

And I know (I know!) a lot of you have seen these articles floating around:

I wanted to wait till I could have an official chat with the studio folks before I said anything, so my small contribution is: I know Alex has met with the director, Scott Stewart, several times; I know he screened Scott's movie, Priest, and loved it; I know he read the TMI books over the holidays and really liked them and liked Jace, and his representatives are negotiating making a deal for the role of Jace. At this point it's all about the deal, which really doesn't have anything to do with me, so I stand back and wait for news like the rest of you.

Anyone for a game of Scrabble?

I have a quick question for Goodreads folks more experienced than me. I hate to interfere with my books on Goodreads, but I noticed that when you search for Clockwork Prince, the audio version comes up (mis-titled)

instead of the printed book:

which I think is what most people are looking for. Also, it seems to have flipped the "this edition" in my rating details section with the "all editions." Is this just a typical kink, will it work itself out, should I tell someone...? Advice appreciated.

The German cover of Clockwork Angel — coming to Germany in February (I don't have an exact day, alas!) I love that they incorporated steampunky elements into their cover style for the Mortal Instruments books.

And did a lovely backgroundy thing that I want as a wallpaper. Not that I know what the words mean (other than "Schattenjaeger=Shadowhunter.)

And later but not leaster, the cover of City of Fallen Angels:

About which all I know is that it will be out in Germany in "Autumn" — and there is a good chance I will be out there too for the release, signing books. Fingers crossed!

December 19, 2010

Every month since January 2010 I have shared a sentence or paragraph from City of Fallen Angels on Twitter. I've posted the last teaser from CoFA today. You can find them all collected here, including the most recent, December's:

Happy Holidays!

As promised earlier, the cover for City of Fallen Angels is now up over at Entertainment Weekly's Shelf Life! There's also an excerpt from the first chapter of the book.

I've always loved the covers Cliff Neilson has done for the MI series. Each one is fun and different in its own right. For the "second cycle" of The Mortal Instruments we wanted to do something that would link the cover aesthetically to the earlier covers while having a different quality that announced that this was a new chapter in these characters' lives. We decided that each of the Second Cycle covers is going to have two characters on it — in this case Clary and Simon.

Since the copy in the reveal video is small, here's a slightly larger version:

And here are some details I love, like Clary's bright green eyes:

and the Morgenstern ring around her neck.

And don't forget to read the exclusive COFA excerpt here!

December 9, 2010

Just dropping an entry to announce that, as reported by Deadline, Lily Collins, who starred in The Blind Side and the upcoming Priest**, has been cast to play Clary in the movie adaptation of City of Bones. The producers and director have worked with her before and say great things, and I have to admit right now I haven't seen The Blind Side but am obviously going to go out and watch it NOW.

She is completely adorable and looks right for Clary to me:

[and with curly hair!]

And now, of course, as this article notes, presumably the speculation about who plays Jace will begin in earnest . . .

** And apparently is also famous for dating Taylor Lautner — did I know this? No, but my readers apparently know everything. :)

ETA: Look, no actor or actress is going to look perfect or right to absolutely everyone for the part. Keep in mind *I* don't choose the actors or actresses who star in the movie — I have to trust the vision of the producers and director, and I do. I hope you can be optimistic too, but if not, super-nasty comments about Lily are going to be deleted.

November 16, 2010

I've posted two November teaser(s) for City of Fallen Angels. You can find them here:

or here (which includes every teaser posted so far this year, from January on, and one teaser from Clockwork Prince) :

The last CoFA teaser will be in December and will be Clary/Jace. After that, I will not be posting any more teasers, the reason being my publishers will be taking over in the realm of providing promotional content for the book. So there will likely still be "stuff" from City of Fallen Angels being posted counting down to its release — just not by me. I know they have some fun stuff lined up, so I'm looking forward to it.

Cover reveal for City of Fallen Angels is now exactly four weeks away — I've seen it, and it's fabulous. :D
