about this author
Hi, and thanks for coming to my profile on Goodreads.
On August 5th, 2008, my first novel - The Gargoyle - was published. This was, of course, tremendously exciting for me. In America, the publisher is Doubleday; in Canada, the publisher is Random House; in the UK, the publisher is Canongate; in Australia, the publisher is Text. As well, the book will be translated into twenty-eight languages.
I'm very much enjoying being a part of the GoodReads community, and I hope that I'll hear from readers who enjoy my work. Feel free to say hello.
All the best,
Andrew Davidson

"I understand that some people find God after misfortune, although this seems to me even more ridiculous than finding Him in good times. 'God smote me. He must love me.' It's like not wanting a romantic relationship until a member of the opposite sex punches you in the face. My 'miraculous survival' will not change my opinion that Heaven is an idea constructed by man to help him cope with the fact that life on earth is both brutally short, and paradoxically, far too long. ""God cannot be referred to as 'good,' 'better,' or 'best' because He is above all things. If a man says that God is wise, the man is lying because anything that is wise can become wiser. Anything that a man might say about God is incorrect... The best a man can do is to remain silent...The true master knows that if he had a God he could understand, he would never hold Him to be God.""

Hi Andrew,Thanks for accepting my friend request. I'm reading your book at the moment. I just started reading it a few minutes ago. So far, it has really nice and catching sentences.
Hi Ruth,I *think* there should be English language copies of the book in India... I know that I've gotten messages from people in India who have read it.
Good luck. I hope you can find it!
Andrew
Hi Nancy,And thanks for accepting that friendship request. I'll do my best on that future work.
Andrew
Hi Andrew,Thanks for the nice comments on my review and the friendship request. Looking forward to more of your work.
Hey David! Thanks for the request, The question was really a trick, I couldn't live with just music or books to be honest. Glad you liked my review, I loved your book! Thanks for taking the time to write that invitation too! :)Ciao,
Tori
Hi Sarah,Thanks for the note, and for accepting the friend invite. Very pleased you liked the book...
Best,
Andrew
Thanks Kate,I'm glad you liked my liking.... and thanks for the recommendation to the librarian....
Best,
Andrew
Andrew, I'm so glad you liked my review of The Gargoyle - I appreciated its originality and insight. When I returned it to the library, I recommended it my librarian friend.
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment on my review and for the friend request! I am honored!
Just wanted to mention stumbling upon your book was a pleasent surprise. I work at a large library here and when we first got your book, nobody had ever heard of you, "Who's this new guy?" So I picked it up and indulged myself....very nice...
Hi Destiny
Thanks so much for your kind comments on The Gargoyle; I really do appreciate them very much. And I'm glad to know that you intend to go back and read it again....
Best,
Andrew
Thank you for the compliment and thank you, thank you for your hard work and time spent on The Gargoyle. It is a beautiful book and one I will read again.
I said this in my review, but this is the kind of book I would love to write. I read the entire thing yesterday. It's one of the few books I want to read again, so I could go back & pick up more of the symbolism and see how some of the pieces fit together...
Thank you for this wonderful book!
Just wanted to let you know i greatly enjoyed your book. I just finished reading it. Hope to read your next work soon!
Hi Lindsey
A previously normal man (or woman) wakes up one morning, and discovers that s/he now suffers from hedonophobia.
Sounds like a horror story to me; how would *you* cope with that in your life?
Andrew
I have a hard time STARTING writing. It seems when I have an objective, I'm OK. I'm wondering if you would challenge me to write something. My tendencies are toward horror and fantasy. If you feel like indulging me, give me a couple of characters or a framework and I'll go from there.I see it as a writing exercise I guess. I know I could do the horror thing better than the men, I just gotta get started.
I know it sounds crazy...but just give me a sentence and I'll write back with more. Geez ... I sound like a lunatic. Oh well, here goes ...
Hi Amy"Bloodlines" is a novel by an Andrew Davidson, but not me. I've asked for the Goodreads librarian to remove the book from my profile, and I'm waiting for that to happen.
Best,
Andrew
Andrew, Sorry, don't log in here often. Back in March it was almost impossible to get a copy here in the office from Eric. But I thought it was a great book. Congratulations on the release!Paul
Congratulations, Andrew! I was at what appeared to be a very successful book launch for you last night in Winnipeg. You seem like a very personable man. By the way, you are not weird as you stated. I have your book and am looking forward to reading it. Once again, conrats, so nice to see one of our own with much success.
I am not going to attempt to describe The Gargoyle, I wouldn't want to taint such a fabulous book! What I will say is that any negative review I have read shocked me because this is the best book I have read in years. It touched me, it seduced me and it even educated me. I am suspended over great heights until he publishes another book. I cannot for the life of me explain what the book is about, because it contains such meaning and it takes a rare gift to fit so much into one story! It weaves stories within stories and it is painful, moving, romantic (and that is a weak word to describe the love contained within it's binding), mystical and he's fit humor and cheek in as well. Andrew Davidson is a gifted orginal, and with the many books that are being published today that leave us all on empty he is a Godsend- well to the book addicts anyway. Read and read again and again and hold on to your copy for dear life, because if someone picks it up, you will NOT see it again!
