When discussing the yippie movement, he throws objectivity out the window, dismissing them as being venereal diseased malcontents, crazies, whose circus-like antics weren't worth a moment's consideration. His moral contempt for the right represented by the 3rd-party candidacy of George Wallace caused him to hope that not discussing them would make them go away. He gives them 20 out of 459 pages, despite their winning much of the South & receiving over a 7th of the popular vote. This doesn't make for either good storytelling or good reporting. Some of the most interesting & important drama occurred on the fringes of that year. Those same left- & right-wingers whom he wouldn't even grant the time of day are now significant players in American politics, the former composing the core of both the Green party & campaigns like Al Sharpton's, while the latter's descendants are now a powerful Republican constituency.
