It's hard to find the right words to to describe what reading Amy Reed's YA novel, Beautiful, was like. It's an incredibly intense story about a thirteen-year-old girl named Cassie, who makes the decision to sit with wild and troubled outsider Alex, at lunch. From that moment on, the life Cassie had slowly unravels and twists and turns into something much darker, something much less certain from there.

A life–as the back of the book says–of, "drugs, sex, secrets and cruelty."

Still...

This seems very well-timed after my horror movie post! Truefax: I have never been a stop on a blog tour before. I KNOW. Why not?! I really like blog tours. I love seeing what each blogger brings to the table in terms of questions and I love seeing the participating author's responses. They're fun! And the organization involved is a thing to behold (truefax #2: I am not very organized and it gives me something to aspire to).

So you can imagine how very very happy I am to report that I...

Recently, on The Twitter (as this octagonarian likes to call it), The Emily (as this octogenarian likes to call her) was asking around for SCARY movie suggestions because it is getting to be that time of year again. You know. OCTOBER.

I guess October is a pretty good month for watching horror movies. Why is this, I wonder? Please note: that's a joke. I thought I should clarify because some people still occassionally ask me if I was really serious when I publicly declared Salinger...

You guys, I can't even tell you how heartened I am by the turn out for my giveaway! Heartened AND plagued by guilt. I wish I could've given an ARC to everyone and I'm not just saying that. I was raised Catholic and my guilt complex is a thing to behold (maybe it is part of the reason why I write about guilty people all the time?) and so, to ease the pain, I decided to offer a second and third place prize–signed copies of Cracked Up to Be!

Before I announce the winners, I would just like t...

Reasons I love the internet: THE PEOPLE ON IT! They're so incredibly cool, I don't even know how the internet hasn't exploded yet. Surely all the coolness must compromise its infrastructure, or something? I think about this a lot. Especially when I meet a cool new person.

Recently, I met a very cool new person and I want to tell you about her. Her name is Realm Lovejoy, a talented 24-year-old author/illustrator who grew up in Japan before moving to the United States. Does her name...

Man, I LOVE checking my email and getting that one from my editor that says, "You can share your cover now!" And then I LOVE sending one back to her that basically says, "EEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" And then I LOVE getting one back minutes later that says, "I thought that would make you happy!"

People I may have bugged unrelenetlessly about showing my cover to the world: my awesome editor.

But! It's so wonderful, you guys! I couldn't help myself. My editor and the cover designer worked really...
