About this author

Courtney Summers can't wait for the zombie apocalypse. Also she is the author of CRACKED UP TO BE and SOME GIRLS ARE, FALL FOR ANYTHING and THIS IS NOT A TEST, four edgy young adult novels published by St. Martin's Press.

Visit her website or follow her on Twitter.

FYI: While I don't have time to share my thoughts on every book I've added to my GoodReads (I wish I did! I love book talk!), please be aware I only add books that I like and recommend to my shelves.

Cracked Up to Be came out four years ago on December 23rd and January 5th will mark the third anniversary of Some Girls Are’s release. It is weird to think about that! Especially Cracked Up to Be. Cracked Up to Be is one of my more personal books but not in the sense I am Parker and we have done the same terrible things. But there are little injections of myself in the pages, moreso than any of...

Jack McClelland, Imagining Canadian Literature: The Selected Letters

“When I was a kid--10, 11, 12, 13--the thing I wanted most in the world was a best friend. I wanted to be important to people; to have people that understood me. I wanted to just be close to somebody. And back then, a thought would go through my head almost constantly: "There's never gonna be a room someplace where there's a group of people sitting around, having fun, hanging out, where one of them goes, 'You know what would be great? We should call Fiona. Yeah, that would be good.' That'll never happen. There's nothing interesting about me." I just felt like I was a sad little boring thing.”

Courtney Terra wrote: "I just got Cracked up to be and I can't wait to start it!"

Hi Terra, sorry for the delay in my reply--thank you so much for reading! I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed SGA & that it resonated with you. :) My next book is post-draft, pre-edits and if all goes according to plan, should be out in 2011. Thanks again for the comment & for all the kind words. I really appreciate them!

message 20: by Terra

Terra I just finished reading Some Girls Are. I couldn't put it down. I loved it and I am going out this morning to buy Cracked up to be. Are you coming out with another book soon? I hope so, I love your writing style and I just can't wait to read what else you come out with. Your book was so relatable, even though I am ten years out 12 years out of High School, this book (Some Girls Are) make me want to go out an apologize to everyone I was ever mean to. I am a changed person, but I wasn't always the sweetest in School. Love the book!!!!!

Dani Thanks for the add! Can't wait until I recieve my copy of Some Girls Are, it looks amazing! :)

Courtney AB wrote: "Hey lady -- so that book Fall, by Colin McAdam, that I think I linked you to a ways back? Is on the Giller Prize shortlist. Literature about teenagers = TAKING OVER THE COUNTRY AMIRITE."

TOTES. I almost bought it in Chapters a while ago, but the prices of hardcovers = :/. There was a misprinted edition there! Like the lettering on the spine was transparent and it was cool but omg hardcover prices these days. I am really interested in it but I am not sure if the style will win me over (from what I've seen so far).

AB Pssst, another book: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/82... !

Its author taught the course I just finished taking, which I'll say more about soon -- but Nancy's great, and from the sounds of listening to her talk about her own work/style, you and she would have much to discuss. :) Hang in there, girl.
