Kerri Maniscalco grew up in a semi-haunted house outside NYC where her fascination with gothic settings began. In her spare time she reads everything she can get her hands on, cooks all kinds of food with her family and friends, and drinks entirely too much tea while discussing life’s finer points with her cats. Stalking Jack the Ripper is her debut novel. It incorporates her love of forensic science and unsolved history, and is the first in a new series of gothic thrillers.

It will be available everywhere September 20, 2016.

(From the Ripper murders, to medical practices during the time, clothing, society expectations, and even small things like soap or popular perfumes.) Sometimes it would take an entire day just to find one detail that ended up being a half a sentence. It was SO worth it, though. Hopefully it will bring that time to life for readers :)

Oh, yes! I think it's normal to feel like giving up on any project at least few times or million. The trick is staying with it, and remembering that feeling will pass and be replaced with excitement again. (less)

I listen to music, watch something that's atmospheric, go for a walk or hike, do some yoga - anything to help getting my blood pumping and my brain working. Sometimes getting away from the computer and blinking cursor is the very best thing you can do for yourself. Other times you just have to turn off distractions and roll up those writing sleeves :)(less)

I have been dancing around the interwebs all week with each new character sketch that the endlessly talented Phantom Rin unveiled in the STALKING JACK THE RIPPER universe, and wanted to do a round-up for anyone who may have missed out on the fun.

Rin just shared some new illustrations with me, so keep an eye out on Facebook, twitter, tumblr, and instagram if you’d like to see them the day they’...

Deliciously dark and gleefully gritty, Stalking Jack the Ripper left me horrified, distressed, and starving for the next installment. Full of mystery, blood, and sharp wit--tied up with clever mystery, romance, and horror.

The Waking

I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.
I learn by going where I have to go.

We think by feeling. What is there to know?
I hear my being dance from ear to ear.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.

Of those so close beside me, which are you?
God bless the Ground! I shall walk softly there,
And learn by going where I have to go.

Light takes the Tree; but who can tell us how?
The lowly worm climbs up a winding stair;
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.

Great Nature has another thing to do
To you and me, so take the lively air,
And, lovely, learn by going where to go.

This shaking keeps me steady. I should know.
What falls away is always. And is near.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I learn by going where I have to go.”
