Bettie Williams has been an award-winning author of novels and short stories for over 20 years. She has previously been published in numerous literary anthologies and has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

THE RAKE'S TALE took first place in the South Carolina Writers’ Association’s 2014 Carrie McCray Memorial Literary Awards. A former journalist, Williams holds dual bachelor’s degrees in English and communications.

In addition to writing, she is obsessed with all things William Shakespeare and Jane Austen (PRIDE AND PREJUDICE is her favorite book of all time); has a closet fascination with Benedict Cumberbatch (Then again, who doesn’t?); and becomes a bloodthirsty tyrant whenever anyone dares to bring out a Scattergories game (She’s never

If you don't, no one else ever will. This fundamental belief will push you when you want to quit, will soothe you when you get burned, and will sustain you in times of turmoil.

2. Join your local writing organization. Meet and interact with other writers. No one will understand you better than them, no one will push you to be the best writer you can be like them, and no one will keep you from tossing yourself off the nearest bridge when you get your first bad review like them.(less)

At least one hour a day, I have to be in the chair. I don't have to write a masterpiece, but I do have to write something. I may delete it all tomorrow in place of something better, but I will write today. A paragraph, a chapter, a short story ... it doesn't matter. I just have to write SOMETHING.

I think writer's block usually stems from writers putting too much pressure on themselves to be brilliant, compelling, funny, dramatic, etc. After a while, they get too much in their own heads and become like a deer in headlights. Incorporating writing into my daily routine and giving myself permission not to be perfect has gone a long way in helping me avoid it.(less)

I don't give flaming reviews. I find them tacky and classless. If you don't like a book, don't read it. That's always been my motto. If there are technical issues or things you don't agree with from a reader's standpoint, feel free to point them out ...more

Bettie and 2 other people liked Naksed's review of Enchantress:
Enchantress by Constance O'Banyon
"Well, I gave this author a second chance after I DNF a cowboy romance of hers. I guess the good news is I managed to finish this one. The bad news is that I did not like it at all.

The beginning of the novel seemed promising although it read suspic..." Read more of this review »
