Magpies has been awarded the Gold Medal in General Fiction in the Florida Book Awards. The medal ceremony will take place March 21st in Tallahassee and the awardees will also be honored at a banquet at the Florida Library Association Conference in Orlando in April.

Publishers Weekly (Dec. 05, 2011) says of Magpies: "Barrett portrays adult lives with minimal flourishes and a powerful command of setting.
