Want To Read the ENTIRE FIRST CHAPTER of Scorched Desire?
My Dragon Shifter in the CURVED LINES Box Set…

Chapter One

“I so wish I was that bike,” Jilly murmured as she watched the hunk of inked-up hotness ride past her apartment on a blood-red Harley.

“What?”

Jilly blinked, heat rushing into her cheeks. Oh God, had she uttered the words loud enough for Sam to hear?

Shit. Sam would be horrified. As much as she adored him, her friend could be a tad prudish.

“Nothing,” she blustered, turning from her living room window to grin widely at him. She smoothed her palms down over the fronts of her thighs, the worn denim of her jeans for some reason making her tummy tingle.

Every morning for the last two weeks, she’d watched the hunk on the Harley ride past her home. Every one of those fourteen mornings, she’d found herself feeling tingly and aroused after he disappeared from her sight.

She usually dealt with the tingly horniness with the aid of her battery-powered rabbit.

“Nothing?” Sam pulled a face at her, hurrying over to where she stood. “Nothing is making you blush.”

He looked out the window, his gaze darting around what lay three stories below.

Jilly fidgeted on her feet. The building sexual ache that always followed her admiration of the unknown Harley rider burned hotter this morning. More insistent. Demanding.

Wow, if she touched herself right now—

“The dude on the bike?” Sam wondered, casting her an askew smirk. “Really?”

“Why do you say that?” she asked, trying to sound surprised and confused as she returned her attention to the world beyond her window.

Yep, there he was. Waiting for the traffic light to turn green. She could almost hear the powerful thrum of his bike’s engine. Could almost feel its throbbing vibrations between her thighs.

God help her if he ever swung his head in her direction and found her drooling all over him. She would probably orgasm there and then.

“Well, it’s him or the geriatric on the mobility scooter on the sidewalk, and if it’s the geriatric, I’m worried.”

Jilly snorted out a nervous laugh, even as her stare slid back to the hunk.

Tummy tightening, pussy fluttering, she studied him.

Sexy as sin in black leather pants and a sleeveless black leather vest that showed off the muscular perfection of his arms, he could easily have stepped directly from her deepest sexual fantasies.

Long blond hair hung down his back in a thick plait. Stubble roughened his chiseled jaw. Dark sunglasses wrapped his eyes.

Licking at her dry lips, Jilly moved her gaze to the pièce de résistance—an exquisitely detailed and amazing tattoo of an emerald-green dragon extending from the top of his right shoulder down over his upper arm. As always, the sight of the dragon—its power and ferocity and beauty—made her pulse quicken.

Years of studying for a Masters in Norse Mythology meant she was well-versed on dragon. And Vikings. The sexy Harley rider embodied both of her favorite things, all wrapped up in one delicious, wicked package.

“Hey?” Something hard nudged her ribs. “Are you listening to me?”

She jerked her stare back to Sam, fresh heat flooding her cheeks. “What?”

Oh God, what were the chances he would ever let her live this down?

Sam rolled his eyes. “You need to find a boyfriend, Jilly Parker,” he muttered, shaking his head as he moved away from the window.

Jilly flicked a quick glance at the window. A heavy weight settled in her stomach at the green traffic light she found.

Her biker with his dragon tattoo was gone.

Maybe tomorrow she’d wait outside for him to drive past and flash a sign at him saying, Take me. I’m yours.

A wry snort tore at the back of her throat. Even if she did, he wouldn’t. A hunk like that wouldn’t look twice at a girl like her. What with her size-twelve jeans and curves that had long ago stopped being lush and voluptuous and now bordered on—

“Earth to Jilly.” Sam snapped his fingers in front of her face, expression exasperated. “Come in, Jilly.”

She swiped his hand away with a wave of hers, pulling her own frustrated face. “You need to tell me why you’re here,” she said, stomping away from the window. Tea. She needed a cup of tea. If Sam insisted on being here, tea would need to suffice instead of her vibrator until her friend vamoosed. “I’m meant to be meeting Nadine for coffee in an hour and you’re holding me up.”

A cushion smacked into her back. “Have you not been listening to anything I’ve said since I arrived?” Sam asked.

She snatched up the cushion and tossed it back at him. “No,” she said, resuming her stomp to the kitchen. “I’ve been ogling geriatrics on mobility scooters.”

“You haven’t heard about the dragon sighting? Seriously?” Sam followed her into the small space, before hoisting himself up on the counter to gape at her. “The whole side-of-a-hotel-bursting-out-and-a-dragon-flying-away thing?”

Jilly frowned. “Are you serious? That’s a thing in the news?”

Sam nodded. “The official word is it was a promo stunt for a movie, but no one is saying what movie. From what I’ve seen, the dragon was freaking amazing. Whatever the film is, the budget must be huge.”

Reaching for her kettle, Jilly tried to ignore the flutter of delicious heat in the junction of her thighs at the word dragon. An image of the hunk on the Harley’s with his dragon tattoo filled her head. Her pulse quickened. Her clit throbbed.

Ah man, perhaps Sam was right? Maybe she did need a boyfriend? Nadine—friend and co-worker—had been saying the same thing for some time now.

She filled the kettle, set it to boil and then leaned her hip against the counter and studied her friend. “So you’re here to talk to me about some movie promotion gimmick? Shouldn’t you be at work?”

Swinging his legs, he snagged an apple from the fruit bowl and bit into it.

Jilly watched him, tapping her foot with melodramatic exaggeration.

He chewed, contemplated, chewed some more.

“Well?” she finally said. The heat in her girly bits thanks to Harley Dragon Hunk had begun to fade. For some reason, she felt angry about that.

Sam swallowed with just as much drama and exaggeration as her foot tapping and grinned at her. “I’ve got a job for you.”

She blinked. “What kind of job?”

A Masters in Norse Mythology didn’t exactly open employment doors, a fact her estranged mother had pointed out all those years ago before riding off into the sunset with Jilly’s ex-boyfriend.

Sam raised the apple, opening his mouth.

“Don’t you freaking dare,” she admonished, throwing a tea bag at him.

It arced in the air with impotent trajectory and fell to the floor between them.

Sam burst out laughing, bit the apple and then answered her with his mouth full. “It’s nothing that amazing. Just a temp thing at the pet shop on 3rd. One of my clients owns it, and he needs a trustworthy person to look after it while he goes to the West Coast for a funeral.”

Removing the boiling kettle from the stove, Jilly frowned. “One of your clients owns a pet shop?” When it came to cake decorating, none finer than Sam could be found in Chicago. Nor any as in-demand and successful.

He took another bite out of the apple, chewed and nodded. “He bought it for one of his girlfriends to pacify her for not leaving his wife. When the wife found out, he ended up with nothing but the pet shop. Oh, and the vacation home in the Hamptons. And the yacht.”

Jilly raised her eyebrows. “For a boring cake decorator, you have some very interesting people in your life, Sam.”

Swallowing the last of the apple, he swung his legs and launched himself off the counter. “That I do,” he agreed. “But none as interesting as you. Now, do you want this job or not? I told Yuggie you were a natural with animals and had no problem dealing with poop.”

Jilly thought of her options. Her current job had her at a bookstore where the owner tried to feel her up every shift she worked, which meant she needed to slap Mr. Renner’s wrinkled, veiny, liver-spotted hands away from her butt and boobs twice a week.

Running a pet shop had to be better than that, even with the poop.

“I want it,” she said.

He grinned. “Excellent. Now I’ve fixed this part of your life, I’ll see if I can track down the dude on the Harley for you. You need to get laid ASAP.”

Jilly shoved him in the chest. He fell back, laughing. “Enjoy your tea, Parker,” he said as he hightailed it out of her kitchen. “I’ll see if I can find out what movie the dragon is for and snag us tickets. Who knows, they might need a cake for the opening night?”

Dragon.

The word ignited the fading throb in Jilly’s core, and she sucked in a sharp breath.

She pressed her palm to her lower belly. Her breath fell from her in shallow pants. Maybe she’d forgo the tea, since Sam had left.

Perhaps she’d go put some mood music on, some Adele or Ed Sheerian, and then pull her rabbit out of the bottom drawer instead. Pull the curtains and—

Outside her window, the sound of a motorbike’s engine under full throttle growled over the street noise.

Jilly gasped. She knew that engine.

Running to the living room, she pressed her palms and forehead to the window, a part of her mind scolding her for being so damn childish.

The rest of her didn’t care. Her fantasy hunk with his dragon tat and black leather and scruffy beard and sublime arms had returned.

Returned, and was coming to a halt at the traffic lights in front of her apartment.

Oh boy.

Arriman “Ari” Drake cut back a gear and flung his Harley CVO Breakout around the corner, his heart wild.

Not because of the Extraho Venator on his tail. Not because the dragon hunter had damn near dogged his every move for the last hour.

Not because the cops involved in his current cleaning job were being particularly annoying about the hotel window and wanted more cash than normal to lose the filed complaint, nor because his media source had taken longer than he’d like to instigate the rumor the dragon sighting was in fact, a movie stunt.

Not because anger flooded through him, balancing him on the cusp of shifting into his dragon form, but because for the fourteenth morning in a goddamn row as he rode down Harper Street, his cock had turned to a rigid pole in his pants for no reason he could fathom and a hunger bordering on unsettling flooded through him.

So where did he find himself again this morning? Riding down the street, not because he needed to, but because his goddamn body and a mysterious urgency were forcing him to.

In trying to shake the Extraho Venator, he could have headed in any number of directions, but the goddamn invisible tug on his groin had brought him this way.

Down this street.

He was beginning to think someone was trying to lay a trap for him.

Shooting a look over his shoulder, he searched for the irritating dragon hunter tailing him.

No sign of him. Thank freaking god for that at least.

Ari knew of this Extraho Venator. He was an imbecile called Kestar with delusions of grandeur indirectly responsible for the mess Ari was employed to clean up.

Since Kestar’s arrival in Chicago a year ago, Ari had been busier than ever, and while he could charge whatever he wanted as the city’s alpha Cleaner—a fixer who dealt with the fallout of any dragon-related issue and made it disappear—he himself was also a dragon, and dragons did not take well to idiot hunters trying to kill their kind, no matter how much money it made them.

The fact Ari himself had somehow landed in Kestar’s sights was an issue to be dealt with after finishing his current job.

How Kestar had stuck with him for so long today was anyone’s guess. Maybe it had something to do with the fact Ari kept finding himself drawn to this goddamn street.

Throttling back his CVO, he returned his attention to the congested road. It wasn’t just a string of cars slowing him down now. The red light meant unless he wanted to run it—tempting—he had no option but to stop.

Stop.

On the street that inexplicably gave him a boner.

Great. Excellent.

His hog thrummed between his legs, as if the machine was as pissed as he at being reined in.

Shifting on its seat, he planted his right foot on the road and ran his gaze around the area, letting his other senses seek out whatever it may be that made this street so…so…arousing.

He could detect no hint of the honeyed-sulfur scent of a female dragon, nor—for that matter—the musky-sulfur odor of a male one on the air. Nor could he detect the distinctive tinge of preternatural heat that accompanied the presence of a dragon shifter.

Whatever affected him, it was not a dragon. At least, not one he could identify, and Ari knew of every dragon shifter in his city, including those that fell into the just-visiting category.

It was his business.

And just-visiting dragon shifters, like the Australian dragon whose mess Ari currently had the pleasure of dealing with, had a habit of causing all sorts of trouble.

The invisible tug on his gut, his groin, intensified. An itch bloomed into prickling life between his shoulder blades.

Ari held the handgrips of his Harley tighter. His heart beat faster.

Watched. Someone watched him.

Right now.

The Extraho Venator? Or someone else? Something else?

His cock throbbed, straining against the leather of his pants.

Ari narrowed his eyes and ground his teeth. He didn’t like this. He was all for sexual pleasure and getting his rocks off with a willing partner, but getting hard when he didn’t know why? It was beginning to freak him out. And piss him—

A car horn blasted behind him.

Ari hissed, jumping at the noise and swinging his glare to the vehicle behind him.

An elderly woman in a Caddy waved her hand at him in a hurry-up gesture before stabbing her finger toward the traffic lights.

Ari turned back to the light. Green.

The horn sounded again, double-tap style.

He twisted on his seat and grinned at the old woman. “Yeah, yeah,” he muttered, tipping an invisible hat to her. “Keep your panties on.”

She hit her horn again.

He chuckled and turned back toward the traffic lights, skimming his gaze over the apartment building beside him as he did so.

A woman watched him from one of the building’s windows.

Sexual hunger unlike any Ari had experienced before surged through him at the sight of her. An inferno of pleasure rushed through him. His body seemed to ignite with need.

Curves. Curves and dips and hips and breasts and thighs…

Lust razed through him anew, carnal and potent and demanding. His hands burned, branded by the mere thought of cupping and squeezing the woman’s bountiful breasts. His cock pulsed. His mind whirled.

His dragon—the base, ancient creature—roared, lunging for release. Craving the woman. Craving…

Curves. And hips. And…and…

He stared up at the woman, incapable of moving. Frozen by her even as his body burned with sexual want.

Their eyes clashed over the distance.

His heightened vision locked on them, his heart beating faster.

Green. Her eyes were green. Hazel green and framed by thick auburn lashes. Green and full of a hunger as powerful as his. Hunger and confusion and—

She jerked away from the window, gone from Ari’s sight.

His dragon roared, furious at being denied. Ari’s body reacted the same, the hungry lust burning through him growing hotter, more demanding. A rain of icy pinpricks washed over him, followed by a tsunami of heat.

Behind him, the elderly woman leaned on horn again, longer this time.

“Fuck,” Ari muttered, flinging his Harley, full-throttle, forward. Through the intersection.

The pull on his gut, his groin, his very existence, deepened. Turned painful.

Grinding his teeth, Ari scanned the busy street for a place to pull over.

He understood now, the powerful, impossible to deny draw to Harper Street and its reaction on his body. He knew what it meant.

Fire Mate. He’d found the woman destined by ancient magic to be his partner for the rest of his life.

There were many things a dragon shifter could control, and many things a dragon shifter could manipulate, but the power of the mating fire was not one of them.

Dragons could lose their sanity trying. Ari had more than once cleaned up the mess left by dragon shifters in his city foolish enough to believe they could deny the force of the mating fire.

When a dragon shifter finally encountered their fated mate, when the mating fire began—a twelve-hour period of intense sexual frenzy—trying to refuse it, ignore it, ended in pain. Sometimes insanity.

Sometimes death.

Ignoring the mating fire long enough caused a dragon shifter to transform into their dragon shape regardless of where they were. If that happened, in the throes of the mating fire…

A shudder of cold dread rocked Ari. It threaded through the lust searing his lungs, his veins.

Mating fire. The early stages of mating fire consumed him, claimed him.

Fuck.

He was in the mating fire and there was nothing he could do to stop it.

All he could do was find the woman and surrender to the magic and lust of their joining. Find her and make her his until neither of them had the strength to stand.

And hope to fuck that Kestar didn’t find them while they were at it.

April 10, 2016

To say I’m excited about Princess, the first book in the Foreign Affairs series, is an understatement. Maybe its because the story is set in the Outback (the first Outback book I ever wrote), maybe because I’d always wanted to write an Aussie cowboy (aka, stockman), maybe because I got to work with Mari Carr who, in case you haven’t figured out by now, is one of the most lovely people I know and so bloody talented I get breathless reading her books. Quite possibly all three. Suffice to say, writing this book was the beginning of something special. It was even more exciting when Mari and I got the rights to the entire series back from its original publisher. Now, we want to celebrate the series again by making Princess, Foreign Affairs Book One, FREE until April 23.

What is the Foreign Affairs series about? Aussie men and women, and American men and women, meeting, getting it on, and falling in love…

Essenitally, Mari and I thought we’d do our bit for the US/Australian relationship the only way we know how…by writing somre scorching erotic romance.

PRINCESS PrincessCoverBForeign Affairs, Book One

Annie Prince has impetuously flown halfway ’round the world to visit a man she met online—only to find herself stranded in Sydney. Seems she and Dylan crossed wires, and he’s on his way to New York. His twin, Hunter, saves the day and whisks her back to the family cattle station. Hunter’s as easy on the eyes as Dylan, and even easier to talk to. Annie might have flown to Oz to meet one brother, but soon sparks are flying with the other.

Hunter considered Dylan a dumb arse for jetting off to America for some stranger—until he met Annie. Turns out the New Yorker is a smart, funny, hard-working jillaroo…and hotter than the Aussie desert. Hunter’s not normally one to poach his brother’s women, but he can’t keep his hands, lips, tongue and other body parts off this sexy city girl.

When raging lust leads to emotional attachment, where does that leave Annie and Hunter when her vacation comes to an end—or when Dylan finds out?

Prologue

Annie: Mornin’ sunshine!

Dylan: G’day, love. How’re things in your neck of the woods this evening?

Annie: Long-ass day. Started with rain. Ended with rain. The middle bit was filled with my boss calling me Princess in a staff meeting. Grrrrr. I may end up killing him soon.

Dylan: Don’t kill him. I’m too far away to bail you out.

Annie: LOL. Thanks for the offer, but Monet’s already promised to have my back with the bail money.

Dylan: I think I like this Monet.

Annie: Yeah. She rocks. Actually, she might be the only thing rocking in my world these days.

Dylan: That doesn’t sound good.

Annie: It’s not. You ever been sick of your life, Dylan?

Dylan: Me? Sick of life? Nope. Sick of Hunter at times. The bloody bastard’s been giving me a hard time about chatting with a woman in America again. I told him if he says another word, he’s dead.

Annie: Careful. I’m too far away to bail you out. Snort! Sometimes I wish we lived closer.

Dylan: Me too, love. But let’s be serious, a city girl wouldn’t last a day in the Outback.

Annie: What? You must be joking. I’d last a hell of a lot longer on your little ranch than you would in my big city.

Dylan: Station, Annie. Station. We don’t own ranches Down Under. Do you reckon you’d handle the snakes in the loo?

Annie: I deal with the rats in the sewers just fine.

Dylan: I’ll accept your offer of rats in the sewers and give back crocs in the river and spiders on the toilet seat. How’s that sound?

Annie: Deal.

Dylan: Two days. I’d give you two days before you were on a plane heading back to New York. Me, of course, well…I’d make one hell of a city boy. Blend in like I was born and bred there.

Annie: You wouldn’t last a New York minute, tough guy.

Dylan: I tell you what. Let’s see who outlasts the other. A Yank in the Outback or an Aussie in New York. Next week. Game?

Annie: Game on.

Dylan: Let me take a look at the flights online.

Annie: LMAO. Are we seriously doing this?

Dylan: I’ve never been more serious in my life. Okay. I’ll see you in four days, city girl. This Saturday. Qantas. Sydney International. One p.m.

The-Bad-Boy-Next-Door-mockup1

Releasing March 18
Amazon * Kobo * iBooks * Kobo

He’s dangerous.

He came into my life when I was sixteen. Tattooed, ear pierced, ripped jeans and bloody knuckled. That was the day his family moved in next door.

For six years, I’ve watched my bad-boy neighbor, never knowing when he’s going to be there and when he isn’t. Never knowing what he’s doing when he’s absent, only that it’s dangerous.

And then one night I wake to find him in my bed. Naked. Bruised and bleeding. And hard. Really hard.

****

The Bad Boy Next Door is a gripping tale about a dangerous man and the woman who is willing to take a chance for the ultimate reward…love! Awarding winning, erotic romance author Lexxie Couper does it again with her new contemporary romance about risking it all for the bad boy next door!

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPTHis mutter tore at the darkness in the room a second before I scrambled across the mattress and smacked my palm against the switch of my side lamp.

My bedroom exploded with light.

Lucas hissed, squinting against its harsh assault on his eyes. He raised his hand to protect them against the light, giving me a very clear view of his body.

“Jesus, Lucas,” I breathed, staring at him, my heart thumping fast. “What the fuck happened to you?”

He dropped his arm, the charged energy I was used to seeing in him suddenly turned up to a million. His blue stare locked on mine. His fists bunched at his sides.

I ran my gaze over his torso, too stunned to do anything about covering my own naked body.

Angry purple bruises the size and shape of fists peppered his ribs and abs. Cuts and gashes that could only come from knife strikes did the same, some weeping fresh blood that trickled down his body. Over his hips, down to his—

Fuck, he’s huge.

Jerking my stare up from his erection, I let out a gasp at the battered state of his face. His jaw and lips were as pounded as his body. A deep cut ran the length of his cheekbone below his left eye and also trickled blood.

It was his eyes that messed with me the most, however.

His eyes had always mesmerized me. There was a secret world of danger and violence in them I’d never been able to comprehend. I had even admitted to Mads one night, when we were sixteen and tipsy on my Dad’s secret bottle of Wild Turkey, that his eyes were sexy.

Right now, his eyes looked crazy. Scary crazy.

“Are you on drugs?” I asked.

There were a lot of things about Lucas that made him fall into the bad-boy category, but using had never been one of them.

Lucas liked being in control too much. I knew that.

But his eyes…

He stared at me, his chest heaving, his eyes…

Bright red fresh blood began to flow from his nose, and suddenly he staggered sideways.

“Jesus, Lucas,” I burst out, clawing myself off the bed.

I grabbed at his arm before he could collapse to the ground, steadying him with a flat palm on his chest—right above the tattoo of a raven inked over his heart. “What have you been doing?”

His gaze found mine. For a second, they were as direct and piercing as always, and then they fogged over with what I assume was pain but might be…something else.

“Ronnie?” he mumbled, raising a hand—bloody-knuckled, I noticed—to cup the side of my face. “What are you doing here? I’ll fucking kill them if they’ve hurt you.”

I frowned, alarm bells ringing in my head, my blood roaring in my ears. “We’re in my bedroom, Lucas,” I said calmly even as my tummy knotted. “You woke me in my bed. What happened to you?”

He brushed his thumb over my lips, fresh blood oozing from his nose. “Ronnie. I’ve wanted you since I first fucking saw—”

His eyes rolled back into his head and he crumpled to the ground.

Once the world’s greatest rock star, Nick Blackthorne is now just a guy eager to get home to his wife on Christmas Eve. Getting there however, is a different matter, thanks to a crowded international airport fiasco, sniffer dogs, the ex-captain of the Australian cricket team and a Range Rover that doesn’t want to do what Range Rovers are meant to do.

Will Nick make it home to Lauren before Christmas? Or will he be forced to celebrate Christmas with only the memories of her touch?

12314475_10153149522432623_2905490310139589948_o

EXCERPT

Studying the frenzied television crew closing in on the sniffer-dog’s target, Nick puffed out another shaky breath.

If it weren’t for their presence here, he’d make use of his fame and celebrity status and queue-jump. Even after all these years of being retired and out of the public limelight, whenever he made an appearance things got a little crazy. If he wanted to he could snag a guard, let the man know who he was and ask to be taken through the “special” customs gate. Even with the craziness unfurling before him, he was tempted.

He had a long drive to get home once he got out of here. It would take him at least six hours if the traffic through Sydney was behaving and the M1 wasn’t in holiday-madness hell. Being trapped in customs was only adding to those six hours and he hadn’t seen his wife for over a week.

He hated not being with Lauren for that length of time. Or really, for any length of time.

He wanted to get home. It was Christmas Eve. He wanted to be with his wife. He wanted to take her in his arms, draw her beautiful body to his hard one, lower his head to hers and kiss her until she made that utterly intoxicating little noise she made when he kissed her.

He wanted to slowly press her against the closest wall, thread his fingers through hers and raise her hands above her head, worshipping her mouth as the steel of his arousal told her in no uncertain terms how fucking much he missed her, how fucking much she turned him on.

He wanted to make love to her lips, her throat, her shoulders, her breasts with his mouth and then bring her to the most insanely intense orgasm of her life as she leant against the wall.

He wanted to lose himself to the pleasure of everything she was, everything he loved, like he did damn near every day.

He wanted to be with her now, not just because it was Christmas Eve, but because she was his and he was hers and he missed her…

He had to get out of here. Now.

BURN FOR YOU
Outback Skies Book Two
Available Now

Harsh, rugged and unforgiving, the Australian Outback is the perfect place for Evan Alexander to hide. Up in the air, fighting fires from the cockpit of his helicopter, no one sees the scars that run clear down to his soul.

When a massive fire breaks out in a nearby national park, Wallaby Ridge becomes a media staging ground, and Evan’s daring piloting skills the center of attention. Evan finds it easy to dodge every reporter—except one. A woman from his past.

Jenna McGrath can’t believe the quiet, withdrawn man declared a hero is the same arrogant, cocky pilot she fell in love with six years ago. A cruel betrayal caused Jenna to remove herself from his world, but she’s never been able to erase him from her memories.

Their long-suppressed attraction reignites, but the walls Evan has built around himself are high. And while Jenna easily overlooks the scars on his body, she begins to wonder if molten desire is enough to melt the emotional scars binding his heart.

Warning: It’s not the flames devouring the landscape that will stir your soul…it’s the wounded, broken man fighting them from the air.

“This isn’t a long read, but man is it a great one. There aren’t many authors that can grab your heart as hard in these few words as well as Lexxie has. I highly recommend this book and series!!! I can’t wait to see what else she has coming from these guys of Wallaby Ridge.” ~ KcLu, Guilty Pleasures EXCERPT

No way.

Jenna’s stride, normally utterly confident, purposeful and commanding, betrayed her. She stumbled, her four-inch Manolo Blahniks scraping over the gritty concrete, her mic slipping from her loosening grip.

Reflexes contracted her fingers around the microphone before it could fall to the ground. Her cameraman, Theo Theodopolis, snared her upper arm before she herself could tumble in that direction.

“Gotcha, boss,” he muttered, laughter in his voice.

She tried to shoot him a grateful smile over her shoulder, tried to show her appreciation for his quick action, but she couldn’t seem to drag her stare from the man in the baseball cap and battered bomber jacket standing near the helicopter.

There was no way it could be who she thought it was.

No way.

For starters, the Evan Alexander she knew five years ago would never hide under a baseball cap. Evan Alexander only ever stood tall and arrogant, smile smugly charming, oozing sexy-as-sin cockiness and surety.

That Evan, the one her best friend had married—correction, so-called best friend—had married would never wear his collar up hiding half his face.

Evan Alexander knew he was too good-looking to deny the world his countenance. Evan Alexander preened when the world looked at him. Evan Alexander would not, repeat, would not turn his back on a reporter making their way towards him like the man in the bomber jacket was doing now.

Which meant the man Wallaby Ridge was hailing a hero couldn’t be Evan Alexander, right?

Right?

So what’s with the punch-to-the-tummy sensation then, Jenna? The same punch-to-the-tummy sensation you always got every time your eyes connected with Evan’s back when you still hung out with him and Tracey?

Drawing in a slow breath, she straightened her spine and continued towards the man so very obviously ignoring her approach. There was no way it could be Evan. No way. It was a freaky trick of light, is all. A snatching glimpse of eyes similar to Evan’s. Hell, what with the way the man was wearing his baseball cap so low over his face, and with the cocked-up bomber jacket collar, she was lucky to have seen his eyes at all, especially in the darkness of the evening. Where were all the streetlights in the Outback? Surely the helipad should have some kind of illumination? How did they see anything out here at night with so little electric light? By the gazillion stars overhead?

“Miss.”

She flicked the tall man standing beside the one ignoring her a look. He smirked at her, an unreadable expression on his face.

Jenna swallowed, casting her gaze over him from eyes to boots and back to eyes again. Charlie Baynard, Wallaby Ridge’s Senior Constable. A ripple of apprehension shot up her back. She’d spoken to him only a few moments ago, trying to track down the hero of Wallaby Ridge. He’d been intimidating then, shielding a small group of firefighters just in from the massive blaze from a frenzied gaggle of print-media reporters desperate to get a story.

“Senior Constable.” She licked her lips, her belly tight. Why, she had no idea. There was no reason for it. The man with his back to her wasn’t Evan. She indicated towards that broad back with her head, gripping her mic tighter. “Is this who I’m after?”

Charlie Baynard nodded. The shoulders of the man refusing to look at her stiffened.

“It is,” Charlie said. “But I don’t think he’s in the mood for talking. And I wouldn’t call him a hero if I were you.”

Jenna frowned. “But he is. Everyone is talking about the helicopter pilot who risked his life to save the team on the north line of the fire. Even his own captain says they’d all be dead if he hadn’t…” Huffing into her fringe, she tore her focus from the smirking police officer and reached out to tap on the other man’s shoulder. What was she doing wasting time with Baynard? “Excuse me, I’m Jenna McGrath from Chanel Eight News. I’m wondering if you’d permit me a few moments to talk about what you did out there?”

The man half turned his head, enough to grant her a glimpse of what little profile the low baseball cap peak and high collar allowed. “I just did my job,” a deep voice, scratchy and husky from smoke, no doubt, declared. “There’s no story here.”

The tension in Jenna’s stomach fluttered. Her throat thickened.

In amongst all that scratchy timbre was a voice she recognized, one that had stayed with her long after she and Tracey had parted ways. One that visited her often in her dreams and when her hands took care of the yearning in her body.

She stared at the glimpse of a profile. At the downcast eyes refusing to look at her.

“Evan?”

His name slipped from her lips, doubt and confusion tripping over the syllables.

The broad shoulders encased in beaten leather stiffened. She saw his eyes squeeze shut. Saw his head dip a fraction, as if weighed down by a fatal sense of acceptance.

And then the man every member of the media here in Wallaby Ridge wanted to talk to turned and faced her fully. Fixed her with eyes as piercing as they’d ever been despite the dark shadow thrown over his face by the peak of his baseball cape, and Jenna forgot how to breathe.

“Hi, Jenna.”

A lump lodged itself in her throat. Got stuck there, fast and tight.

She caught sight of white twisted flesh beneath his left eye, over his cheek. Saw a hint of the same on what little of his jaw and the side of his neck was visible behind the cocked collar of the bomber jacket.

Are they…are they scars?
The shocked thought ran through her head at the very second she realized just how long she’d been staring.

COMING JULY 2015 ~ PRE-ORDER NOWNot all cowboys ride horses.

Jeremy Craig is on the cusp of being named the deputy prime minister of Australia. Which means he’s got to play his cards right and stay deep in the closet. Australia is a lot of things, but there’s no way the country is ready for a gay prime minister. So far, it’s been an easy ruse to maintain. Until he meets Ryan Taylor. Then all bets are off.

Ryan is sick of the Brokeback Mountain jokes. For starters, he’s an Australian stockman, not an American cowboy. For another, he spends most of his working days alone in a helicopter, not on the back of a horse. As Wallaby Ridge’s only contract heli-musterer, he gets to escape any small-town scorn high in the sky. He’s happy up there. Lonely, but happy. Who needs passion and wild sexual pleasure in their life when they have the boundless skies of the Outback, right?

Then Jeremy Craig climbs into his chopper…

Warning: This book may change your opinion of politicians. It also contains scorching, no-holds-barred passion between two alpha men, one with a Ryan Gosling fetish and the other with a secret deeper than the ocean. Yes, it’s that complicated.

EXCERPT

“The PM sends you his best, Minister,” Jeremy Craig’s assistant offered into the phone, a soft crackling of the connection the only hint of the vast distance between them. “And tells you not to forget you have a breakfast meeting with him when you return Thursday.”

From his seat in the Cessna Citation, Jeremy studied the arid landscape below. This high in the sky, one could be forgiven for thinking the Australian Outback was just the product of a painter denied anything but a palette of ochers and reds. The red dirt stretched beyond the horizon, marred only by clumps of grass trees, yellow spinifex and tenacious eucalyptus trees.

It was a breathtaking sight to behold, one a city boy like Jeremy recognized as both culturally significant and strangely stirring.

He thought of attempting to describe the view to his fellow politicians when he returned from his visit—public servants who had never stepped foot outside of Australia’s capital cities for fear of exposure to substandard cappuccinos, or those who sniffed at the very notion there was existence beyond the country’s coastal borders.

Those politicians would find this trip to such an isolated area a hardship. They’d complain and moan and begrudge the forced time away from their metropolitan offices. They’d spend the three-and-a-half-hour flight working out how they could claim their upcoming overseas vacation as a tax expense rather than taking in the unique beauty of the Outback’s grandeur below.

A grandeur he was about to spend five days visiting, thanks to his position as the federal minister for the arts and culture.

When the PM had requested Jeremy officiate the opening of Wallaby Ridge’s first indigenous art gallery—a move the PM viewed as politically sound—Jeremy had jumped at the chance.

For one, it gave him a chance to get away from the backstabbing and power playing of Parliament House for a while.

For another, it would allow him a chance to absorb himself in something he genuinely loved—art and Australian culture

More than that, it allows you to escape the constant pressure of the persona you’ve chosen to wear, doesn’t it? You may not be able to completely relax out here but at least you don’t have to worry about the ever-present scrutiny of the media and your—

“Minister?”

Jeremy jerked himself from the reverie, bringing his attention back to his assistant on the other end of the telephone connection.

“Sorry, Linda.” He shifted his butt on the plush seat, noticing for the first time the hint of buildings away off in the far distance. “I was woolgathering.”

“Isn’t that the minister for agriculture and rural livestock’s job, sir?”

Jeremy laughed at the young woman’s joke even as he adjusted the glasses on his face. “It is, Linda. But he’s not the one about to land in Wallaby Ridge, is he?”

His assistant chuckled. “Enjoy your stay in the Outback, sir.”

Jeremy disconnected the call and returned his focus to the township the private plane was now approaching. Wallaby Ridge, a thriving Outback community of roughly seven hundred people and his home for the next five days.

Those five days were planned to the minute. There was the art gallery opening, along with various appearance and appointments acting as the prime minister’s representative. A visit to the Mutawintji National Park, where he would take in the ancient Aboriginal cave paintings, and a goodwill trip to the local Aboriginal community. The latter two would require transportation via helicopter and, according to the itinerary Linda had supplied him, his pilot was a man called Ryan Taylor.

Taylor was to meet him when he touched down. He would then fly Jeremy out to the deputy prime minister’s newly rebuilt Wallaby Ridge homestead—situated 242 kilometres away from the town proper—where Jeremy was setting up office for the week.

Jeremy let his thoughts linger on Australia’s deputy leader for a moment. There had been many backroom conversations and mutters about the man, most focusing on his dubious relationship with a multinational mining company. Rumour had it he was about to announce his exit from political life, a retirement touted as being forced by the PM.

According to Linda—who seemed to know the move of every politician in federal politics before they made them—Jeremy was but two party-room elections away from being named his replacement.

Was Jeremy ready to become Australia’s deputy prime minister?

He didn’t know. What he did know was he loved his country more than words could describe and would do anything required of him to make it an even better place to live.

Including denying that which would destroy his political career.

A soft tone filled the plane’s interior, followed a second later by the sole flight attendant’s arrival at his side.

“We’re landing in a few moments, Minister,” she said, leaning towards him. Her smile—and her eyes—suggested any invitation he extended would be accepted.

His political advisors would most likely encourage the dalliance. The last time Jeremy’s name was linked to a sexual scandal as such, his popularity with male voters had skyrocketed. Surprisingly, so had his popularity with female voters aged eighteen to twenty-five. Of course, that scandal had seen him pitted against a rock star for the affections of Natalie Thorton, the dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. It was very likely the approval may have had something to do with the celebrity status of his so-called rival.

“Thank you—” he flicked her nametag, strategically pinned just above her breast, a quick look, “—Tabatha.”

She straightened, trailing her fingertips across the back of his shoulder as she turned and walked back to the cockpit.

He smiled, his gut clenching.

If only she knew…
