I'm so thrilled to be continuing the Belador series. This is Book 5, that follows the aftermath of the battle in Rise of the Gryphon and the big step Storm and Evalle took. I have two series going right now - Belador urban fantasy and Slye Temp romantic thrillers. I took some time out yesterday to review a Belador short story (Deadly Fixation) that was in a big anthology two years back. I'm including it with Demon Storm as a bonus. Thanks for asking!! (less)

Something has to drive the character(s) forward - they have to have reason to act and "to act now!" So the first thing I do is start asking myself questions - why does this scene matter? Has anything changed?(if not, I go back to the last scene where there was real change) Why must this character do X? (lack of stakes are a major reason some stories bog down - we just don't care if X happens) - somewhere in the questions I'll realize the bump. Being a career author means writing every day, even on the ones where I'd rather curl up with a book. :) If you hit a rough patch, then take a step back to the beginning of your story idea and see if the character's goal and motivation is still strong. Ask yourself if the stakes are "increasing," because an opening stake is often not the one that drives a character hard enough to the big black moment. Good luck!!! (less)
