About this author

Andrew Smith is the author of GHOST MEDICINE, a 2009 ALA/YALSA "Best Books for Young Adults," and IN THE PATH OF FALLING OBJECTS, a 2010 ALA/YALSA "Best Books for Young Adults."

In November, 2010, Andrew Smith's THE MARBURY LENS will be released by Feiwel and Friends, an imprint of Macmillan.

I won't rate books by other authors here on Goodreads. I think there are obvious reasons why an author might feel uncomfortable doing that. I don't have any problems answering questions about things, though.

Okay.

So Winger has been out for a few days now. Judging by the reaction on the internet, people are really liking it.

The very cool thing is that people have been sending me pictures of Winger on bookshelves all over the country. I love seeing them.

Here's one from Minnesota:

And Oregon:

And Idaho:

There are a few more, too. I hope people keep sending them to me.

In fact, to encourage people to... read more »

" Guhhhhhhhhhhh. Seriously.

So, even before I knew anything at all about this book I knew I was going to be forced to give it 5 stars, because I am ALWAYS forced to give Andrew Smith's books 5 stars. It's not like they're flawless, but my gosh. The... "

" First off, I'd like to say that this is one heck of a book. The plot, characters, and their feelings are what really makes this book great. It gives you an incredibly honest look inside the mind of 14 year old boarding school junior Ryan Dean West... "

" If this one doesn't have a bunch of shiny stickers on it come the end of January, there's something heinously wrong with the system. "

I was initially turned-off by this hideous cover when I first saw it on Edelweiss. Then I started seeing 4-5 star ratings pop up and words like "hilarious" were being bandied ar... "

I blurbed this book and wrote about it on my blog. I don't think writers should rate or review other writers, but Carrie and her editor did not ask me to blurb it. My praise was entirely unsolicited. There is nothing like this book at all. One of the...more

“Henry believed that Marbury was a world out of balance. He needs to take a closer look at this one.”
Andrew Smith, The Marbury Lens

“The one sure thing about Marbury is that it’s a horrible place. But so is right here, too. And there’s certain benefit in the obviousness of its brutality, because in Marbury there’s no doubt about the nature of things: good and evil, or guilt and innocence, for example. Not like here, where you could be sitting in the park next to a doctor or someone and not have any idea what a sick and dangerous sonofabitch he really is. Because we always expect things to be proper, even if we haven’t learned our fucking lesson that it just doesn’t work out like that all the time.”
