Brent Weeks was born and raised in Montana. After getting his paper keys from Hillsdale College, Brent had brief stints walking the earth like Caine from Kung Fu, tending bar, and corrupting the youth. (Not at the same time.) He started writing on bar napkins, then on lesson plans, then full time. Eventually, someone paid him for it. Brent lives in Oregon with his wife, Kristi. He doesn’t own cats or wear a ponytail.

Brent Weeks is currently not accepting new questions.

A rattling noise at low rpm's could either be something stuck in your CV joint or you might want to check your trunk. I find that when I slow down, that's when the hostages make the most noise. They seem to think somebody will be able to hear them at that time. Best of luck!
Oh, also, avoid border states. I find the spot checks are particularly problematic there.(less)

Then of course, I often scowl, change the word order to see if it makes it funnier, scowl again, and try three more times. I also occasionally cackle when I've pulled something particularly cruel and/or clever. This is why I can't write in coffee shops. (less)

More of Brent's books…
“The truth is, everyone likes to look down on someone. If your favorites are all avant-garde writers who throw in Sanskrit and German, you can look down on everyone. If your favorites are all Oprah Book Club books, you can at least look down on mystery readers. Mystery readers have sci-fi readers. Sci-fi can look down on fantasy. And yes, fantasy readers have their own snobbishness. I’ll bet this, though: in a hundred years, people will be writing a lot more dissertations on Harry Potter than on John Updike. Look, Charles Dickens wrote popular fiction. Shakespeare wrote popular fiction—until he wrote his sonnets, desperate to show the literati of his day that he was real artist. Edgar Allan Poe tied himself in knots because no one realized he was a genius. The core of the problem is how we want to define “literature”. The Latin root simply means “letters”. Those letters are either delivered—they connect with an audience—or they don’t. For some, that audience is a few thousand college professors and some critics. For others, its twenty million women desperate for romance in their lives. Those connections happen because the books successfully communicate something real about the human experience. Sure, there are trashy books that do really well, but that’s because there are trashy facets of humanity. What people value in their books—and thus what they count as literature—really tells you more about them than it does about the book.”
Brent Weeks

“Do you know what punishments I've endured for my crimes, my sins? None. I am proof of the absurdity of men's most treasured abstractions. A just universe wouldn't tolerate my existence.”
Brent Weeks, The Way of Shadows

“Why is it, my shadow-striding friend, that we don't fear dreams? We lose consciousness, lose control, things happen with no apparent logic and abiding by no apparent rules.... We don't fear dreams, but we do fear madness, and death terrifies us.”
Brent Weeks, Shadow's Edge

Well, thank you. I signed up here thinking, hey, I love books, I have strong opinions, this will be great! Then I realized I now have a pretty good chance of sometime meeting the authors I might have less-than-completely laudatory things to say about. That was a splash of cold water on the idea. Then, honestly, this site--cool as it is--has just been lower on my list of priorities with my web site, my forum, doing interviews, facebook, twitter, and oh yeah, trying to write. It IS still on the list of things to update and to put at least some of my favorites up on, but it is lower than a lot of things.

C.E. Thornton Just dropping in to say I just read the last page of "Beyond the Shadows" and your trilogy is some of the best writing I've read in years. Thanks for an awesome story! I could go on, but we'll be here all night!

Jennifer Brent I miss your books! I have been trying to find something to compare and I keep getting a sour taste in my mouth! Please tell me you are cooking up something special for your devoted fans?

Sincerely,
Jennifer

PS- Is there anyway I can get a signed copy of your book(s)? I move around a lot with the military being a army wife but I will drive to a signing if I have to! I am still working on my husband to get time to read them, he is interested and he does not read often!

Jennifer Brent- I was visiting your website and was sickened to find that your cover to "Black Prism" was leaked! That is terrible. I do not think people realize how much work goes into your creative thoughts. I hope you find out who the creep(s) are and blog some of their intellectual property! OK so maybe I am a little vindictive, but it is better than what Durzo Blint would do to them *wink wink*

Jennifer,
If you are unable to make it to Powell's this weekend, I'd be happy to send you signed book plates. Just email me with your address. Thanks for your praise and support. Happy Thanksgiving.

Brent

Jennifer Just headed over to your website, joined the boards (a little late granted!). Just wanted to let all you goodreads fans to know that Brent has posted alot of interesting things over there. Maybe even a few *spoilers*, maybe not. I guess you'll have to go see for yourself!

Steven Hey Brent, your books look and sound so kick butt man. Have you been hit up for a movie deal yet? Your trilogy is on my list of must reads. I'm from up in the Longview/ Kelso area of Washington, think you will ever make an appearance for a signing up this way? You definitely got a lot of fans in this town. Everyone I talk to has heard of you and has your books.

message 14: by Maggie

Jessie I just want to say I think it's really cool that you have a GoodReads account and are friends with people, your fans, rather than just another author page. I love your books, they're slowly becoming some of my new favorites, and can't wait to finish the Night Angel Trilogy. When's the next Lightbringer book coming out? :D

PS: I can't believe no one's commented on your page since April!
