About this author

Dana M. Baird is a St. Paul, MN artist and author. She studied Anthropology and Art History at Macalester College and later completed her B.A. with honors in Studio Art at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

When she is not painting or writing, Dana sings with The Court Revelers, a madrigal group that performs out at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. She has been known to occasionally compose silly song lyrics for the group.

Her two YA fantasy books, The Spell Keeper and Veil of Whispers, have been published through Sam's Dot Publishing, a small press out of Cedar Rapids, IA.

Both are available through the the Genre Mall, a purchasing site for small speculative fiction presses.

Not my favorite of the series, it spends too much time in little off-shoot adventures that ultimately distract not only the character, but the reader from the bigger story.

I read this along with a collection of his short stories. "I am Legend" was pretty good, but it was the short stories that really blew me away. "Witch War," "The Funeral," and "The Near Departed" were three of my favorites.

Louise Erdrich
“The story comes around, pushing at our brains, and soon we are trying to ravel back to the beginning, trying to put families into order and make sense of things. But we start with one person, and soon another and another follows, and still another, until we are lost in the connections.”
Louise Erdrich, The Bingo Palace
