About this author

Oliver Harris is one of the freshest new crime writing talents on the British scene; his novels to date are The Hollow Man (2011) and Deep Shelter (2014). Both feature DC Nick Belsey, a man of contradictions who fights crime and isn't afraid to break the law in the process.

Oliver was born in north London. He has a first-class degree in English Literature and an MA in Shakespeare Studies from UCL, and an MA in creative writing from UEA. He has worked in clothing warehouses, PR companies and as a TV and film extra. More recently he assisted with research in the Imperial War Museum archives, and continues to act as a reviewer for the Times Literary Supplement.

His Facebook page can be found by clicking here.

The 2nd in the DC Belsey series is out in Germany on Monday. Called London Underground (Deep Shelter in the UK), this installment sees Nick Belsey chasing a dangerous criminal determined to lure him down into London's secret network of underground tunnels. But why?

description: Two of Britain’s most promising crime writers, Oliver Harris and Eva Dolan, come together to discuss mortality and murder, crime and the city.

Oliver Harris’s debut novel, The Hollow Man, was greeted with rave reviews. Val McDermid declared it ‘a twisting spiral of lies and corruption, a pitch perfect portrait of contemporary London.’ Driven by an an accelerated pace and engaging plot, his second novel Deep Shelter follows Detective Nick Belsey deep into the bowels of subterranean London. The Square Mile in particular had always fascinated me, and it was changing as I wrote. In 2008 it seemed that the extraordinarily brash world of finance might be gone forever. By 2010 it was clear that news of its death was premature. But like Hampstead it would never seem quite so solid again. That's the London of The Hollow Man. Like Belsey, it needs to find new tricks, legal or illegal – and it needs them fast.
