There is some great information on Float Tanks out there on the web, but I'll give you a brief description.
Imagine 10 inches of water in a tank just big enough to stretch your body out. Added to the water is 800 lbs of epsom salt. The solution is so thick that you float on top of the water. The tank closes, so there is no light and no sound, and then your skin temp matches the water temp, so there is no sensation of touch either. You feel like you're floating in space.
This is super relaxing, but the other benefit is that with no sensory data to process your brain begins to stretch and play and explore. Areas of the brain that are usually subdued by your normal sensory process begin to light up. Creativity can be boosted profoundly in this state. Dreams and lucid dreams become very vivid. I highly recommend the practice.(less)

I was surprised at how easy it was to follow, considering how ancient and fragmented it is. I knew I wanted to do something with the story immediately. I'm not exactly sure what why I chose to work it into a Fantasy/Western, but once I started it seemed to flow quite nicely.(less)
