Description:
In the summer of 1973, Peter Jameson, a buoyant, handsome, already-idolized rock wunderkind stood poised to take his band, The Master Planets, to the top—until the day his mother, a suburban housewife with a flower shop, was found dead after murdering an elderly German farmer living in Ohio. Suddenly, past collided with present in a sequence of loss and betrayal that ended his dreams and forever changed his life. When everything you wanted is taken away, what is left behind?
STUPID SCHOOL (Literature & Fiction)

Description:
This is the prologue for my upcoming novel, Stupid School. The main story takes place five years later, when the novel's protagonist, an errant hedge-fund manager, arrives at the high school to perform a year of community service.
I should note that everything in the prologue, with the exception of the final scene, has actually happened at some American school that I personally know of.
Since this is a work in progress, I'd be very happy to hear any comments.

A Special Evening with Author Donald Gallinger
date:
April 13, 2009 07:00PM
location: Haddonfield Public Library, 60 Haddon Avenue , Haddonfield, NJ, The United States description: Come and meet one of New Jersey's hottest new authors, Donald Gallinger, as he reads from his breakthrough novel, The Master Planets. Donald Gallinger’s voice is unique in today’s fiction. He loves telling deliciously complex stories in the relentlessly spare yet lyrical prose that is becoming his trademark. Combining keen wit and a rare subtlety of insight into the human heart, Donald Gallinger’s writing is bold, profound, beautiful—and hugely entertaining. Here is what critics are saying about...more |

“Time collapsed into a delicate dark pencil brushed against our
eyebrows, the emergent rumble of crowds gathering above our heads. We
slid into our costumes. Pirate, outlaw, futuristic rebels. Red,
purple, gold. Chains hanging from our belts, tight black trousers. We
were moved upstairs, closer to the stage. Finally, we heard the
cannon's roar: Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome... Tanzar
recording artists... THE MASTER PLANETS!" The world shot forward. We
stepped into the spotlight.”
