about this author

All of Maggie Stiefvater's life decisions have been based around her inability to be gainfully employed. Talking to yourself, staring into space, and coming to work in your pajamas are frowned upon when you're a waitress, calligraphy instructor, or technical editor (all of which she's tried), but are highly prized traits in novelists and artists. She's made her living as one or the other since she was 22. She now lives an eccentric life in the middle of nowhere, Virginia with her charmingly straight-laced husband, two kids, two neurotic dogs, and a 1973 Camaro named Loki.

"You're beautiful and sad," I said finally, not looking at him when I did. "Just like your eyes. You're like a song that I heard when I was a little kid but forgot I knew until I heard it again." For a long moment there was only the whirring sound of the tires on the road, and then Sam said softly, "Thank you."

*grin* Thanks. I'm really glad you liked Ballad, especially the SullivanLove bit. ;) And in my head, there are more stories in that series, but they are a bit backed up behind other novels in the queue, so it might be a bit of a delay. Thanks for all this, by the way!

2281499 Maggie Stiefvater, you are excellent at writing about badasses. I just finished Ballad and sweet baby Jesus, I love that Mr. Sullivan. Haha.

But I have some questions (some of which you might not be able to answer)! Is there going to be a third novel in the Lament series? It seemed like there will be, but your list of books only has the Mercy Falls books. And Dee and Luke- I don't know what to say! I love them together but now they seem broken. Will you write more about them from Dee's perspective?

But Dee and Luke aside, I loved Ballad. James and Nuala are so perfect for each other. I cracked up laughing more times than I can count while reading it because of them (and Paul, too). Oh, and thank you so much for killing off a certain awful relative. I wanted to punch her in the face so bad, you have no idea. Haha.

But this is starting to get long so I'll end it here. And also, congrats on the Shiver! I cant wait to find out about the cast and all that.

2083653 Hi Maggie!
Just wanted to thank you for coming to answer questions in the YA group. I'd hate to think you had a bad expierence doing it but judging on some of the people's responses, I think you may not have enjoyed it as much as you should have. =(

I wrote a comment in responses in that group already but just incase you don't go back there anymore, just know that there are thousands of people who loved your book.
It was one of my favourite reads of this year, by far.

I'm writing a story myself and I really fear having to face the different reactions. I suppose that's immature of me. I know that people have different tastes and that I understand but then there are those who offer unintelligent and cruel reviews. That frightens me. :P

So, in short, I think you are courageous to go through with this whole process. Your books are deserving of the high praise they get. Don't ever doubt it! <3

Hee! I can't answer which is my favorite -- they both scratch different itches. But I can say that yes, Shiver's a trilogy, and my book after that will involve blood, beaches, and kissing. :)

message 88: by Heather

1860637 Hey, Maggie! Just wondering: Of your two current series, which one is your favorite? I realize that may be like asking a mom which of her kids is her favorite, but... I'm curious. I've read all your published books, so far, and while I adore them all, I'm a total Sam/Grace girl.

Also, we all know that Shiver is the first of a trilogy, but I was wondering if anything is going to follow Lament The Faerie Queen's Deception and Ballad The Gathering of Faerie.

See ya on LJ! Heather/bella_fox

2083653 Ahhhh, it was amazing Maggie!! I loved Shiver and was so surpsied that your first book dealt with Celtic mythology because I never would have expected it. I'm a HUGE celtic mythology fan and so I was totally excited! You did not dissapoint! It was even better than I could have expected.

The way you write about romance is just..soo... I'm lost for words. It's so perfect.
Your females aren't these feeble little things who give their hearts to more than one man and seem completely and utterly undecisive.
They are strong despite their constant battle with genuine and relatable vulnerabilities.

I completely adore the couples in your novels. They are just thrown together for the sake of it. They actually...for lack of a better word, click.

I can not wait for Ballad!!- I'm very excited it is from James perspective too- I was rather fond of him. I think he was an amazing friend and I'm excited for his dealings with nuala! muahaha.

Will there be any Luke in Ballad? I sure hope so- even a little tiny smidge? Will there be a third book? With all of them? To wrap it all up? Pretty please?

=)

SO, I've just started Lament. (I read shiver less than two weeks ago)

Can I just say that I LOVE the way you write?

There have been times when I love a story but find I am annoyed with the writer's style. But that is completely not the case with your stories- I love the way you write! To top it off, it looks like it's going to be as intense and exciting as Shiver.

Okay, back to reading!

Keep up the great work,Maggie!
