I'm happy to present in its entirety a recording of a reading I did this summer at Mysteries To Die For, the wonderful independent mystery bookshop in Thousand Oaks, CA.

Bigtime thanks to the staff and customers of Mysteries to Die For for having me visit, Joelle for coming along, and Aldo "Mystery Dawg" Calcagno for showing me the way(s) around and about L.A.

This photo is actually from my reading at Murder By The Book in Houston, another awesome bookseller I vi

More news this week from L.A's Ozzy Sheraton. This time it's Jack Palms that he's following. (Original post.)

Who does Jack Palms think he is, Sinatra or something?

Just weeks after announcing that he had secured private funding to produce "Shake It Up", the long-awaited sequel to his 1999 hit movie "Shake 'em Down", Palms has been dumped into a scandal that even this action hero might not be able to shake his way out of.

Former girlfriend and bartender Maxine Lopez dropped the big one on Palms, al

Lately I've been the recipient of some awesome reviews and blog entries on the web. So I want to take a minute to shout out these sites:

First up is this HOT OFF THE EARPHONE-PRESSES interview that P.G. Holyfield just *finally* dropped. Sure, we recorded it way back in July, but who's counting? Listen up, pilgrim.

Danny Machal's Blog: DannyMachal.com Up and coming podcast author gives super review!

Andrew Jack, another up and comer, drops this review at AndrewJackWriting.com

Ozzy Sheraton reports this covert sighting of myself and fellow novelist Scott Sigler partying last weekend at an undisclosed San Francisco night club with Lindsay Lohan. You can bet this was the V.I.P. section, baby! No word yet on which of us went home with her.

If only I could remember anything that happened after I got there...

That's right! I got in the hot tub! (Direct Link to Episode. Listen here.)

Today I'm talking about how the book publishing industry could go forward, how it is completely different from either music or newspapers and what top execs might do to get around a possible Amazon or Apple takeover of the industry by monopolzing sales.

Let's call this: The Future of Books

I also cover some of your comments, feedback, my vacation, books I'm reading, and what's coming this fall in the way of new fiction on th

Hadley Had a Birthday! That's right, some of you might remember last year's wondeful (to me, at least) experience of watching Hadley eat an entire pork steak without a fork or knife, doggy style. Well this year, she celebrates with a char-grilled buffalo burger, a side of sweet-potato fries, and her favorite: green beans! Check it out:

And yes, I've caved to the powers that be in the world of YouTube searches, which is why I've named this video, "Cute Dog Eats a Burger!" Bring on the hits!

In other news, I'm back from the farms of Western Mass (the Berkshires), rested, read-up, and not-quite ready for more action. But I'll cover that in the next Hot Tub Castâ„¢. For now, let me catch you up on some cool news and coverage that surfaced while I was out of comish:

1) Paul Kilduff did a great interview piece with me in his column for THE EAST BAY MONTHLY here in Berkeley. Here's the August edition of the Kilduff file: "On-Demand Novelist"

2) Next we've got a cool interview posted by autho

Martyn Casserly, awesome all-around dude and podcast listener, just wrote this article which appeared online at WIRED.CO.UK. In it, he talks up Scott Sigler, Tee Morris, Mark Jeffrey, J.C. Hutchins and me, and how we've used podcasting our fiction as a great platform to use free to get our work out on the web.

Here's my quote:

"Nowadays publishers are looking for an author with an audience online," explains Harwood. "They want someone who knows how to market themselves and have built a platform of
