The Bookie's Son by Andrew Goldstein

I was charmed by this book before opening it. First, the title: The Bookie’s Son. Titillating and a bit shocking. Who has a bookie for a dad? I must have been fated to read this book because the couple on the cover look quite a bit like my parents in the early 1960s. I was positively inclined toward it...

Description: In the 1950s, Edward R Murrow hosted a radio program, "This I Believe." Prominent and unknown Americans spelled out their most cherished credos and personal beliefs. The radio show lead to a series of books solicited from readers. The current book of the This I Believe series was published in 2007. Social philosopher Studs Terkel kicks off the book with his essay. Also included are essays by Isabel Allende, Gloria Steinem, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, and Newt Gingrich. My reading group read the book for our last meeting. We took up the challenge; the twelve of us set out our core beliefs. We're going to submit them to the people putting together the next book. Mel Chris [bookcover:Blessed Footsteps: Memoirs of JR Holden|10403836

The Memoirs of JR Holden is unique, in part, due to the humble nature of this star athlete. And the story he tells is one of hope, inspiration, faith, courage, and belief. JR tells this story without hiding or covering up any of his pit falls or short comings along the way. You will put this book down genuinely sensing the passion this young man lives life with

Give it a try !!

Mel Chris Thank u Sandy for ur friendship here ;-)

Sandy Hi, CJ. Haven't written on Goodreads in a while. Been concentrating on facebook (http://facebook.com/sandynathan) I've been rewriting my novel Numenon's sequel, chugging forward slowly. Lots of fun articles on my blogs http://yourshelflife.com and http://sandranathan.net Please stop by. Shelflife is for writers, the other is my personal blog for airing WHAT BOTHERS ME, AND TICKLES ME.

How are you?

Sandy Hi, CJ and all!

I've been working like crazy and haven't been on line much. I've been occupied with the business of writing. I just got a manuscript off to the editor for a second pass, and so on.

I discovered animoto.com. They do amazing computer generated videos. You supply images and text, and select music. Their computer generates the video. They're smart, sharp, and stunning. Cost? $0 for under 30 seconds, $30 a year for longer than that. You can make an infinite number of videos. Here are two, which are for for my books. You can see the the variety possible:

Numenon: A Tale of Mysticism & Money A thriller.
http://animoto.com/play/tA17iRPBExT7w...

Stepping Off the Edge A spiritual companion.

More news, I'm going to be on FULL POWER LIVING, an on-line radio program 2/1/2/09 at 9 AM PST. That's tomorrow morning. The show is archived if you miss it, but it is live, so you can call in with questions. I'll be discussing Creative Process with Ilene Dillon, MSW. Ilene has been a psychotherapist for 36+ years, is an author, consultant, and all round wise woman. Here's the link for the show:

Hope you can take a moment to listen to the show, live or archived.
