My latest novel, The Girl in Green, is now out in English with Faber and Faber. The American edition, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, will come out in January in hard cover. So far, no plans to publish this second novel in Hebrew, but who knows. It is a long and winding road when it come to international translations. As for the ending … it had to be. Right? The ending for me was the anchor of the novel. Warm wishes from Oslo.(less)
Derek B. Miller Yes. It will be. I'm inspired these days to write and I suspect I'll have something to share before too long. Thanks for asking.

A question was posed about why authors, on Goodreads, rate their own work which may seem odd or even inappropriate. As the author, I'd like to explain why because I believe there is a good answer.

With all the trolling and banter on the internet, ther

Norwegian by Night by Derek B. Miller
"I am generally stingy with five stars and I am having a hard time justifying the fifth star for what appears to be a suspense or thriller novel. That's what the jacket flap makes it sound like but Norwegian by Night is somehow so much more that it..." Read more of this review »

"I must admit to having a slight crisis of confidence in writing this review, questioning whether I could do justice to just how marvellous this book is. From the first few pages, I was totally immersed in the life of Sheldon Horowitz, our curmudge..." Read more of this review »

More of Derek's books…
“Only the educated stop to look for words - having enough to occasionally misplace them.”
Derek B. Miller, Norwegian by Night

“Everyone gets killed in the shower. Don't you go to the movies? Psycho. Dead in shower. The MExican in No country for Old Men. Dead in shower. Michelle Pfeiffer in What Lies Beneath. Almost dead in shower, or in the bath, anyway. But she did that thing with her toe and got out OD. Still the shower, though...Glen Close in Fatal Attraction. Dead in shower. John Travolta in Pulp Fiction. Very dead in shower. But never closets. I can't think of anyone shot in a closet. This is why I hide in closets.”
Derek B. Miller, Norwegian by Night

“There's also a possibility that the landlord is in there right now, wearing women's undergarments. Or a drug addict is inside stealing jewelry.Or a boatload of recent Chinese immigrants without a television watching Russia play Finland in hockey and placing bets over beer.

You have no idea what's behind that door. You can't just pick the options within your field of vision. Reality comes from everywhere. At best, you can narrow down the likelihoods. But in the end, it's not a matter of deduction. It's a matter of fact. One bullet will kill you if you're stupid or unlucky. So at least don't be stupid”
Derek B. Miller, Norwegian by Night
