<about><![CDATA[Nickolaus A. Pacione prides himself on being the hybrid of H.P. Lovecraft and August Derleth, and says he is the only small-press, self-published, semi-professional author with a fanbase in Arkham House Publisher.

Pacione describes his stories as "street-level gothic horror" with "a darkness that is akin to H.P. Lovecraft," using real places with reputations of being haunted places as his settings for ghost stories. He also has written several Cthulhu Mythos stories. In addition, Pacione says, he has lived around the Theosophical Society and read many of their books and books on the occult to get an idea what he wanted to do as an author.

As a Pentecostal-based, Midwest Republican author, Pacione says his goal is to do gothic horror without "the guilt of some of the originators," and says his trademark is "horror without the erotic content." This trademark was his goal behind the anthologies of "The Ethereal Gazette" and "Tabloid Purposes," wherein he took six authors under his wing to develop styles of horror ranging from psychic powers to conspiracy theories.

Pacione's horror website, "Writings from the Grave," has been online with his writing for 10 years, since the author was 20. However, he has been writing horror since the age of fourteen. Along the way, he says, he picked up writing science fiction as "a parlor trick to show Nicholas Stember that he had the chops" to write it.

Both horror and science fiction were equally in Pacione's house during his childhood. His step-father was a big Star Trek fan and his mother was into John Carpenter's films. Pacione describes himself as "born out of the heavy metal scene," and discovered H.P. Lovecraft in college because of Metallica.

Pacione was first published in print in 2004, and his name has been noticed by some noted underground heavy metal bands. According to Pacione, "I am the only one in the genre who can say I got a letter from Meliah Rage telling me good luck with the horror."]]></about> <influences><![CDATA[H.P.
