About this author

What if there was a fantastical cause underlying the social constraints and limited choices confronting a heroine in a novel by Jane Austen or Charlotte Brontë? Galen Beckett began writing The Magicians and Mrs. Quent to answer that question.
The author lives in Colorado.

An alias for Mark Anthony.

Galen Beckett isn't a Goodreads Author (yet), but he does have a blog, so here are some recent posts imported from his feed.
Well, I'm not at all certain what Jane Austen or Oscar Wilde would make of Facebook. I imagine the former would offer keen observations about the trustability of "friends" made in such a manner, while the latter's status would always be some clever bon mot.
My postings are likely to be neither, but I thought it would be good to use this strange new form of magick to help keep people up to date... Read more of this blog post »

“I will not deny that my heart has long occupied itself with the most tender feelings for another. So strong were these impulses that I indulged myself by thinking that if I could not have him whom I admiredwhom I will admit it now when I would not before I lovedthen I would never want another. However those are sentiments best saved for one of Lily's romances. The heart is a far more practical thing and in its life is happily capable of more than a single attachment.”
Galen Beckett, The Magicians and Mrs. Quent

“How resilient was the body, to return to its prior form so quickly! Yet the mind was formed of a less pliable substance. The emptiness in her thoughts would not be so easily filled. Instead there was a hollowness among them-a place she had reserved for future joys which now would never arrive.”
Galen Beckett, The Master of Heathcrest Hall

“One is always willfully absurd.... If one does not say silly things with a purpose, then he is merely an idiot.”
Galen Beckett, The House on Durrow Street
