About this author

I was born and raised in London. Since then I have lived in Lancaster, Derby and now Brighton. I am married with two sons.

'Wicked Baby', my novella based on the events of the Profumo Affair, was published in 2004. An extract has been showcased on the official website of Whitbread-nominated author Laura Hird.

'The Mmm Girl', my novel about the life of Marilyn Monroe, is winner of the UKA Press Opening Pages Competition, and is now available to buy. An excerpt is featured in the 'Voices From The Web Anthology 2006'.

I also write occasional articles for websites including For Books' Sake, Immortal Marilyn and Madonna Radio, as well as my own blog. I am currently working on my third novel.

This is a lovely idea: a reissue of 8 early Fitzgerald stories, as they appeared in the Saturday Evening Post. These stories are not among my own favourites, but some will love them. (I recommend buying in paperback, as the artwork didn't show up wel...more

Mr. Lincoln's Wars by Adam Braver
I'm a big fan of Braver's later novels on the JFK assassination, and Marilyn Monroe. 'Mr Lincoln's Wars' is his first novel, but for some reason it didn't draw me in.

“Nothing lasts forever,' I said, flicking cigarette ash into a cut-glass tray. 'We all have a short time, to shine or just survive.”
Tara Hanks, The MMM Girl: Marilyn Monroe, by Herself

“It was peaceful, the air crisp; flocks of geese and wild ducks roamed through grassland down by the water. For a moment my heart leapt, and I saw a future for myself. I was alone, and free at last, amongst the birds and trees, from earth to sky.”
Tara Hanks, The MMM Girl: Marilyn Monroe, by Herself

“I closed my eyes. Long before I was in any movie, I was Norma Jeane. I decided I missed those days when I was penniless but still had hope.”
Tara Hanks, The MMM Girl: Marilyn Monroe, by Herself

“That's my answer to the question what is your strongest emotion, if you ever want to ask me: Curiosity, old bean. Curiosity every time.”
Elaine Dundy, The Dud Avocado

“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.”
Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird

“I wrote the story myself. It's about a girl who lost her reputation and never missed it.”
Mae West

“Hollywood is a place where they'll pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss and fifty cents for your soul. I know, because I turned down the first offer often enough and held out for the fifty cents.”
Marilyn Monroe

“No matter who you are, no matter what you did, no matter where you've come from, you can always change, become a better version of yourself.”
